this is how ODI batsman should play. He played better this time :k:
Re: 4th ODI - Pakistan vs New Zealand in Napier - Feb 01, 2011
If he does retain the captaincy lets hope that Pakistan does well despite of him and his captaincy.
True Pakistan won despite Afridi's poor captaincy today. The way he persisted with Sohail Tanvir even though he was getting spanked all over the park was absolutely mind boggling. It almost cost us the game today. I actually thought NZ would win at the half way stage. It is always more difficult to chase a total in ODI and 262 seemed like a good total even on a flat surface. Razzaq bowled well in his opening spell conceding just 16 runs in 7 overs and Afridi should have brought him back into the attack. NZ should never have been allowed to get up to 262 after being 5/79 and then 6 wickets down for 140 odd at one stage. If Pakistan can't go for the kill from having a weak opposition 5 or 6 wickets down for not many then forget anything spectacular against Lankans, Saffies, Aussies, England and India
*Full credit to Misbah. He played a perfect ODI innings guiding Pakistan to a narrow win. Without Misbah and Younis Khan's calmness in the middle overs (hence you need consolidators in ODI), Pakistan would have surely lost this game. *
Wahab (though he bowled well today) and Sohail Tanvir seem to be the weak link in our attack. Both leak runs and can be very expensive esp. Sohail Tanvir. They have obviously gone for Sohail because he can bat a bit but Tanvir Ahmed (unfortunately he has not been selected for WC) is perhaps a more economical and better bowler than both Wahab and Sohail. Maybe they should replace Sohail Tanvir with Abdur Rehman (who can bat a bit) in the next game
Just goes to show that in ODIs you can never afford to relax or mess things up even when you have the opposition 6 or 7 wickets down for not many. They can still fight back and make you pay in the end overs if you do not lead well or bowl with intelligence and commonsense. Australia did this regularly to teams during their peak years. Even in games in which they seemingly looked down and out, they were able to stage remarkable come-backs thru the likes of Bevan, Symonds and Gilchrist
Re: 4th ODI - Pakistan vs New Zealand in Napier - Feb 01, 2011
**Well Pakistan sure made a mess of it - letting Kiwis from 80 odd 5 down to go on to make 262 with the use of tail enders is PURELY PATHETIC!!! no excuses…this is a weak team - come on…
**
Thanks to the consolidators YK and Misbah - otherwise what a SHAME this would have been -
If Pakistan can’t go for the kill from having a weak opposition down 5 wickets with only 80 on the board - then forget anything spectacular against Lankans, Saffies, Aussies, England and India…
I agree with GA - need a better economical bowler to be tried in the next 2 matches..
Hopefully Pakistan can make a clean sweep of the remaining ODIs in this series -
However it will require a LOT OF WORK on the GAME PLANNING BOARD on ***“how can we not allow the opposition to take it away from us when we have them 5 down at 80 on the board” ***
duh…
Good to win at the end ![]()

Re: 4th ODI - Pakistan vs New Zealand in Napier - Feb 01, 2011
Great job by Misbah, I knew our team would make a good match out of it on flat tracks. Afridi had already played his one out of 20 matches knock so I wasn’t expecting him to bat any good, but I was hoping that Kamran will get 30-40 runs at good SR, and so will Hafeez. Our bowlers gave them 15-20 runs more in extras otherwise chase would’ve been easier, they gave away only 4 in extras… talk about disciplined bowling.

Agreed
Re: 4th ODI - Pakistan vs New Zealand in Napier - Feb 01, 2011
Misbah is in Gupshup’s good books now? :k:
It is high time…PCB has another opportunity to reverse captaincy decision in favour of Misbah …unless Afridi scores big in the 4th ODI then they may have to flip back to Afridi..
Sohail Tanvir looks a little out of form. He is better than what we are seeing.
Re: 4th ODI - Pakistan vs New Zealand in Napier - Feb 01, 2011
Afridi has been experimeting throughout his captaincy period...I hope he has learned enough and will perform better than now... :)

GA, nice call after the 3rd ODI. While most of us felt Younis and Misbah were too slow for ODI, you stuck to your guns.
Good call.
(From yesterdays game, it appears Younis does not have enough firepower to turn it on when needed. But I have not watched him much (only yesterday(.
