Imran thinks that one should select the fastest bowler available. If Shoaib is not there take Sami, but on flat wickets one needs real pace to trouble the batsmen. Otherwise slower the better. Balls that come at good pace are easier to hit.
Gul needs to be given as many chances as Sami, or at least should be in the squad until the end of the series. Bringing Sami in will worsen the situation, if it is not already is. Retain Umar and allow him to express himself in a more conditional manner in the next two games. Hopefully, he (alongwith Rana) will regain their momentum and spirit.
On the other hand, why is Asif not being provided his full quota of ten (10) overs, I will never understand. Some things are best left unsaid, and once again, an eyebrow from my corner is pointing in Inzamam's direction, without any questions being asked.
Gul and Asif are good bowlers, they should be stuck with for at least two more series, I’m sure Asif will cement his place for longer term and Gul can learn something from him.
I would not play Rana for the 4th ODI. Indian bats seems to have done some home work on him and besides he himself is bit off color. His cronic problem is his freak’in ‘No-Balls’ It breaks the tempo of the game and I don’t seems to understand his ‘Fast ball’ that he bowls with his head way down squeezing every bit of energy his rear can handle, and the ball is usually way to short and out side the off stump gets 'regulation treatment. But, what does he expects from such deliveries?
Absolutely, yes. Asif seems to be a prospect 'in the making' for a longer-term solution, while Umar, from current conditions, might pave way for another bowler. Whether it is Sami or someone else remains to be seen.
A trio of Akhtar/Asif is the one, I believe, Pakistan is gunning for, in preparations for World Cup. They do have the potential and capability to perform their level-best, and will make an excellent spear-head, no doubt.
1 Salman Butt
2 Shoaib Malik
3 Younis Khan
4 Mohammad Yousuf
5 Inzimam
6 Kamran Akmal
7 Afridi
8 Razzaq
9 Sami
10 Rana
11 Asif
12 sub (Imran Farhat or Yasir Hameed)
If Pakistan cahses, they should sub in Farhat or Hameed for Asif
They have to stop using bowlers as super-sub's.
Gul has not done enough in my opinion. Pakistan is missing SPEED
and Sami can provide it no matter what anyone says. After Shoaib,
he is the fastest Pakistani bowler. Rana needs to be given the new ball, or first change
again. Opening bowling should be Asif and Sami or Asif and Rana, although Sami's pace and Asif's discipline will shatter India
