I remember watching the Contender and having Sergio quote this book…i was in the bookshop the other day buying Protestant Ethic…its my reading list for uni and saw this book…thought id buy it…Looks interesting enough…
Iv decided to read one chapter a day…its quite a practical book so i thought it would be good for people to express what they thought of each law…share any experiences where following this law has been a success or disaster or even express how not following this law has been succesful or a disaster…
If people reply then what ill do is ill post one law a day…so today ill do the first one…
Law One - Never Outshine the Master

"Always make those above you feel comfortably superior. In your desire to please or impress them, do not go too far in displaying your talents or you might accomplish the opposite - inspire fear and insecurity. Make your masters appear more brilliant and you will attain the heights of power"
Re: 48 Laws of Power...Law 1 Never Outshine The Master...
I think that is ancient style of Management, when Masters who became Masters either by accident of birth, or by default and were completely inept felt threatened by superior intellect, but a shrewd Master is one who knows and picks talented people to serve him, that benefits both the Master and the subordinate.
Re: 48 Laws of Power...Law 1 Never Outshine The Master...
^I read the book some years back, a very interesting read but quite negative approach as you can see in the first law.

SindSagar, LightBearer..
By studying you learn to understand that a book is written from someones perspective and is never really objective...hence isnt the be all and end all...
Thats why its interesting to see the views of a wider spectrum of people on each subject...
Both of you seem to see the first law as prehistoric and negative...it does assume every boss to be insecure and not wanting staff that can better him...which im not so hot on...
Does anyone believe in this first law?...

^yes it does make sense if your boss is incompetent.
