back in the 90s when i was there.. majority of them they did'nt even know where afghanistan and pakistan are located on the map or if they were muslim countries..9/11 changed that..those were the good days

Map reading is not for every one. Forty-seven percent Americans probably can not even locate their own hiccky little red-neck town on a map.

oh the agony. forget goras....in all my classes the koreans and chinese (our neighbours :(), i spoke to did not know that pakistanis and indians are also "Asians".

Yeah those were good old days, Pakistanis and Muslims were hardly mentioned on the media and when they were it wasn't for the wrong reasons, it was so novel when they did have a documentory on Islam or Pakistan I'd almost die of heart attacks with excitement.
Now everyone knows Muslims are them crazy bstrds who like to blow up things and the Indians are the dark weird ones who worship cows, monkeys and elephants. In the olden days we could over glamorise our roots and show off but now they are better informed.

My Chinese friend is a Cambridge student and he didn’t know that even though in the UK the word Asian is only really used for South Asians and chinky people are refferred to as Oriental. When I told him Pak is in Asia he said he thought it was in the Middle East , err dude ME is in Asia as well and Pak is not in the ME it’s in South Asia.

What worries me is their inability to locate Iraq. The report says that 'nearly two-thirds of Americans aged 18 to 24 still cannot find Iraq on a map.'

Before katrina lot of people didnt know where louisiana is. most of the youngsters here get their general knowledge from the TV and TV only shows what is more appealing to people.
My friend who fought in Afganistan for one year, after an year of our freindship he was surprised to know that India is in Asia. He thought India is in south America.
As a matter of fact once we conducted a survey here in dirty south and the results were frustating and funny.

West Asia (Palestine, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, KSA, Oman, Yemen, Iraq, Syria, Jordan, Lebanon)
2
North Africa (Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Western Sahara)
