43 candidates file nomination papers for Presidential Election
ISLAMABAD, Sep 27 (APP): As many as 43 candidates including President Pervez Musharraf, Justice Wajihuddin Ahmed and Makhdoom Amin Fahim Thursday filed 71 nomination papers for the Presidential Election, falling October 06. According to Election Commission of Pakistan, 15 candidates filed 41 nomination papers at Election Commission Secretariat Islamabad, 11 candidates filed 12 nomination papers in Punjab, 14 candidates filed 15 nomination papers from Sindh and none filed nomination papers from Balochistan.
Under the schedule, September 27 was the last date for filing the nomination papers for the Office of the President with the Returning Officer/Presiding Officer at Islamabad and with each of the Presiding Officers at Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar and Quetta. Justice Qazi Muhammad Farooq, Chief Election Commissioner received nomination papers at Islamabad, whereas, the respective Chief Justices of the High Courts in the Provinces received nomination papers from the candidates till 1200 hours on the set date. “In all, 71 Nomination Papers have been filed by 43 candidates at Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi and Peshawar,” said Secretary, Election Commission, Kanwar Dilshad.
He said scrutiny of all the nomination papers, received at Islamabad and at the Provinces will be held by the Chief Election Commissioner/Returning Officer at Islamabad on September 29 at 1000 hours at the Election Commission Secretariat, Islamabad in the presence of the candidates, proposers, seconders and the authorized agents.
