Is it correct that this verse of 4 wives got revealed at the time of battle of uhud? Since muslims lost this battle & there were so many women without kafeel hence this ayat got revealed.
In Battle of Uhud, Muslims suffered a big defeat after initially winning. The defeat happened because after initially winning, the companions(ra) of the prophet (pbuh) became complacent. In their complacency, they defied the order of the prophet(pbuh) to hold on to a position meant to defend a hill against a possible encirclement. Ignoring that order of the prophet (pbuh), cost Muslims a terrible defeat. The defeat was so bad that rumors had spread of the prophet(pbuh)'s death and the Munafiqeen took advantage of the lowered morale of the companions (ra) to leave Islam. That's when some of the verses of Surah Al-Imran were releaved. Those verses were to tell the companions (ra) to learn from the defeat and not to get disheartened as the defeat was Allah's way of teaching Muslims some key lessons which they should remember till the day of judgement. Most of those verses are part of Sura-Al-Imran.
So Allah created a situation to teach some important lessons to Muslims, then revealed verses for Muslims to learn and gave orders for Muslims to follow till the day of judgement. Later begins Al-Nisa that talks about orphans, wives, and lots of other orders about inheritance, prohibition of gambling, dealing with munafiqeen, etc. Those orders of Allah are not restricted for a time or place. For example Al-Nisa says that a man cannot marry certain relatives. That prohibition is for all times to come and not just after a battle.
Polygamy has been a part of human society forever, in biology it is survival of the fittest or the law of natural selection. Polygamy was male enforced in previous times and in the current times, it is noted that in the west it is driven by women. Many women here would share a winner rather than spend their entire life with a faithful loser. In history below average men had their genes wiped out and died without reproducing.
For every man who has 4 wives, there will be 3 with no wives. Hence the rise of INCEL phenomenon
