So my little one is 4 month old and once we got an ok frm the doc. i tried giving him rice cereal. The first day he ate it fine. But i tried feeding him again the next but he spit it all out and started to cry.
Yesterday I gave him oatmeal cereal and the same thing. He started it cry and instead of swallowing the food, he kept spitting it out.
Is this normal? Should I keep on trying or wait a little?

i think u should wait for 3 to 4 days n thn try again n follow 4 day rule n some babies strt solid at 6 months so dont worry n u can consult his doc also :) all the best

I'd take it easy for a while, 4months in my opinion is still a lil early try waiting a few weeks and see if ur lil one is taking any interest in your food when u eat or is he putting his hands in his mouth as these are all signs of starting weaning. Unless ur Dr advised u to start earlier for medication reasons like reflux?
Milk is supposed to be their main source of food before 6months, two or three spoons a day of solid to start with is perfectly normal, do don't worry if he doesn't eat at that particular time.

In the UK they advise to wait till about 6 months, and try different things as well. Our baby hated baby rice, I think it was the sticky texture. We tried baby porridge which he enjoyed eating as it was lighter and is recommended from 4mths on the packaging. You can also puree fruits and veggies for the baby to try once they start having solids, 4 months is still very early so don't worry too much if they don't take to it right away.

Even in Pakistan Doctors advise to wait till atleast 6 months and even then some kids may not be ready. My naphew won't take solids till almost a year old but maintained perfect growth.
Don't force the baby, it will stress him and he'll start associating solid food with 'stress' and will never be a good eater.

its totally normal. mine was the same way. give it a break for now. how come you are starting so early tho? i started at 6 months though. earlier eating has been linked to child obesity later on. he doesnt need it nutritionally this young either.
has he shown you he's ready? is he watching you eat, reaching for your plate or spoon? is his neck stable?

well i thought 4 month is when u start. At his 4 month check up, the doc. said to go ahead and start him on solids. His neck is stable, but he doesn't reach for our food. He is in the 90th percentile for his weight n height mA!, so no problem there. Again, only reason i m starting (or trying to,) because i thougth u start them at 4 months.

It depends upon doc some suggest at 4 some at 6 but baby himself vl tell u when he is ready my doc sugested me 2 strt at 4 n allahumdullah she took its like just give 1 tb sp per day if he is still not ready thn give something wth ur finger when he gt use to it thn strt wth spoon till 6 months don't worry n till 1 year milk should be preference

I wouldn't worry he probably isn't ready for food even thou ur doc said start him on solids try jus give him a spoon of baby rice to start with rather than a bowl of food,
It will take him some time I started my daughter at 14 weeks as she was ready for solids but i started gradually even now she's 18 weeks old I
Still give her very little solids,
Don't panic jus rest it for a few days then try again, what time r u feeding him and are u mixing with milk o water

we started at pass 6 months and mostly its veggie, fruits, meat and a bit of rice.

Wait for a couple of weeks. Try with avocado or some fruit puree...........My daughter loved rice serial but my son 10 months old hates rice cereal. He likes veg nd fruits puree.
I started with both at 6 months.

yeah 4 months is way too young and esp if he's showing no interest in it. wait a couple of months. if he starts showing signs that he's ready i.e. watching you eat very intently and reaching for your spoon, then you can try but even then, be patient. initially they're excited but they don't know what to do with the food. mine would just push it all out with his tongue. i waited a few days and next time around he got the picture and now eats well mA mA. don't rush into this- eating solids comes with its own set of challenges and even then its mostly all about milk until they're 1.

^ thanks again guys. My mom takes care of during the day time and she has been feeding him some rice cercel...he still cries during it, but isnt pushing it out. I think i m going to ask her to stop for right now, and maybe wait couple of weeks.

^ also, try oatmeal instead of rice cereal. rice cereal isn't really nutritious per se although everyone says to start with it for some reason. its a lot of starch and carbs. oatmeal is better but as with any solid food, be careful with constipation. baby should be old enough to drink water too after every "meal" and i usually mix in a tablespoon or two of some fruit into his oatmeal, like pear. and i know people are fond of giving mashed banana but that is also a major constipation-causer, as are apples. i'm glad you're waiting. there's so much more that goes with solids and he's so wee right now.
