We all know the Taliban has many sympathizers in Afghanistan including some of those now involved in the drug trade/production and likely others who pass on money just to keep the Taliban from attacking them. Meanwhile NATO doesn't take down drug lords or that will just be another force to contend with and could push them towards an alliance with the Taliban, and piss off locals who make their wages from drug production. What's the solution; create a FARC that does the dirty work and some years down the line go to war with them? Maybe.

You should be advised that the Sikhs barracaded themselves inside a solid fortress high on raised grounds. They never did anything heroic really, though they knew the end was coming. If it were heroism they would have taken the fight out to the raiders, which they did not.
Do not compare this to other events in history. It was not a heroic last stand by the Sikhs. They had no choice. They could not escape and they locked themselves away in the hope reinforcements would come, but they did not for that particular fort.

Most of these so called TALIBAN are street kids with turbans with no formal military training and have no clue about the modern day warfare. The successes attributed to them in the past were the work of ISI and pakistani trained worriers.

so NATO making deals with ppl with dodgy allegiances is okay? and if these drug lords are giving some protection money to taleban, then did we really win the war there. I mean that mission accomplished dog and pony show is looking more and more ridiculous each day now.

Anyone who's calling Afghanistan a victory of these days is a bit out of touch with reality.
As far as allowing drug production it's really a catch 22. More $ is needed to get the farmers to stop growing the drugs and the #1 reason NATO is over there is to fight the Taliban not drug lords, of course everything gets blurred when drug money starts flowing to your enemy and you have to sit there and do nothing about it. And building up a country who's backbone is drug trade is going to cause a mess in itself. Add all that to the fact that one of your allies allows your enemy to seek refugee in their country (as well as recieve help) and you've got a powder keg situation.

taliban people have done the best they can for themselves and their people.stood for vast majority of muslims. didnt you see the celebrations post 9/11 around the world for o b l. all who celebrated are as or more guilty. they somehow came to be in this unfortunate position. its unfair to critise from 1000's miles away in plush sorroundings. very very unfortunate people are afghans inc taliban. unless ones lived in afghanistan, lost familly, looked over hills to find ARMED russians approaching, their not in a position to criticize:)

they also do not speak for majority of muslims or stand for them
the 'celebrations' post 9/11 were by idiots who are found in eac country but they were a tiny fraction, misguided ones who celebrated the death of innocents. Other stuff that was shown was old footage which the newsmedia now accepts.
why is it unfair to criticize? their surroundings, their life, theri challenges .. even if they all had an impact they ruled like psychos and twisted the teachings of religion. There is no harm in pointing out their errors.
