‘I knew we could win after Tendulkar’s wicket’

BANGALORE: Pakistan’s dashing all-rounder Shahid Afridi knew his team could win the final Test against India here on Monday at the Chinnaswamy Stadium when he got the crucial wicket of Sachin Tendulkar caught bat and pad by Asim Kamal immediately after tea.
"Bowling Sourav Ganguly with a ball that turned a lot gave me a lot of cricketing pleasure as he had no clue where the ball had gone from the rough.:):)
But Tendulkar’s wicket was the most prized one for me and I knew than we would win the match because he is such a world class player," the handsome smiling pathan said after playing a lead role in Pakistan’s victory.
Afridi scored a swashbuckling half century in the second innings to allow his team to set up a declaration and than took three key wickets on the final day getting rid of VVS Laxman, Ganguly and Tendulkar. In the first innings also he took two wickets.
“This victory is a memorable one for me because I am happy that I had a role to play in it as batsman and bowler. Winning against India is always a big high for me,” he said.
Afridi said he was looking to further cement his place in the Pakistan Test team after the confidence shown in him by his captain and coach.
“I have always said that a player can only perform when his captain and coach give him confidence and play him consistently over a period of time. I am lucky that they preferred me over other regular openers for the last two Tests and I wanted to prove to them I deserved a chance,” he recalled.
Afridi said he had not been bothered by the noise caused by the big crowd at the stadium and said he expected the Indians to support their team.
“But they have also been supportive and appreciative if we have given a good performance,” said Afridi.
