PS: I am wondering whom Sami will replace in the current Pakistan test team...as all of them are doing quite well...
Ideally Sami should replace Razzaq if Pak is not playing with a negative mind set. Additionally, they should also allow a chance to Samiullah Niazi in place of Shahid Nazir, since Shahid did a reasonable job, not an outstanding one. So youngster like Niazi should get a chance.
Pakistan may go with a flat track again, this will make it safe for them to win the series and will allow Yousaf to score 149 runs to break Richard record.
^ Sami replacing Razzaq means that the 80 runs Razzaq scored to save the match will now be scored by Sami but not when batting but when bowling and that also in his first 10 overs.
I am sure you do know the reason why selectors keep going back to Sami? With his pace, he could dislodge any wicket especially on flat tracks. There is no doubt he is unlucky and couldn't perform consistently, but if he was playing in place of Razzaq.
First, I am sure WI wouldn't have scored 500+ score, so it would have cut the lead in half. Secondly, Pakistan would have played with a positive mind set, and instead of giving in to pressure of 234 runs, they would have played to set a Target for WI for 4th innings and at the same time, WI instead of attacking with a lead of 200+ runs, would have gone to protect runs.
As I said in some other post, Razzaq 82 helped clean his mess of first innings and bowling.
yes he ‘could’ dislodge any wicket as long as there is no batsman to defend it, as far as “luck” goes, there is no such thing as “lucky/unlucky” esp after playing soooooo many matches.
If same pundits sit to select teams then I am sure Harmison doesn’t deserve to be in any team. Of course there is luck, if luck has nothing to do, then Cory Collymore should have gotten more wickets than any other bowler in this series.
No doubt consistency is important to be successful, such as McGrath, but only accuracy wouldn’t help on flat wickets. We all saw it in Multan and most of the macthes in sub continent. In Multan, Taylor was the most successful bowler becasue he was faster than others.
In test matches I will prefer Sami or Rana over Razzaq as bowling alrounder.
sami is not that bad..u people make it sound like as if sami has never performed in any match ever. he had a role in pakistan's win against india in india last year in that last test match which pakistan won to level the series... he got cruicial wickets at cruicial times for pakistan on the last day of that test match ..then in the multan test against england last year he also got a few curicial break thoughs. His performance in england was bad, but he deserves another chacne with shoaib and asif banned
^ bhai jaan, similarly Afridi has many games under his belt, Imran Nazir may have some and the list goes on, does it mean that we include them based on 'what they did in last decade'?
In 28 tests he has taken 73 wickets at an average of 48.36 with a strike rate of 81.94. He has never taken 10 wickets in a match. Is that what you want in your main strike bowler. He is worse than third and fourth string bowlers.
Lets compare that with Razzaq's figures in tests. In 45 tests he has taken 97 wickets at an average of 37.39 with a strike rate of 70.51. His figures are much better than Sami when he is not even your main strike bowler.
^stats dont tell the whole story..razzaq figures may be better because he knoced over some players against zimbabwe or bengladesh...when you need wickets in a crunch situation u need someone like sami, you needed him on that last day in the benglore test against india or against england in multan.sami got 2 important break throughs in those matches in the last innings which helped pakistan win those series because he had pace.you won't be relying on razzaq to get you wickets in a tight situation like that cause he is easy to face.
and if you just wanna go by stats alone, then in one dayers his bowling stats are better than that of razzaq, rana naveed and iftikhar anjum, guys mostly like to play in his place in the world cup.
In the world cup Pak would need one more strike bowler, a third strike bowler is what pak did 'nt have in the icc trophy and allowed nzl and sa to get away after knocking over some early wickets.
I hope that they do,nt play *that *Sami crap again,If his Overall bowling average is not bad enough,
then his first innings bowling average is 59.30.
And whenever Pakistan bowl first(on 1st day pitches, when pitches r supposed to be most helpful for fast bowlers)He averages a *Briliant *71.68 with a *Phantastic *strike rate of 114.9 balls per wicket and where at Karachi first day pitches always tend to help fast bowlers(9 out of last 10 matches have given results)he is not only going to waste the new ball ,if they bowl first ,But also deny chances for others to perform as well.
And what,s more, out of 28 matches he has played so far, Pakistan has a record of 9wins 13defeats and 6 draws(40.90%); whereas in matches where he was dropped pakistan has played 25 matches 15 wins 6 losses and 4 draws.(71.42%)
