There is no true logic behind being the devil of all defenders and not even playing the part of what an opener should. The reasoning behind this order has been perplexing. Just why such an order from the management? Where do we take this overly defensive mindset and dump it into?

Lal saheb, do you mean Sachin and Co had scored more than those who are playing in Indian Team right now? We have just one Team to play with (with all 11 top players). You can exchange players freely. So It really doesnt matter for the Indian team to drop one or two, while relying on two replacements. Even your part time wicket keeper is better than ours.
err which makes us a better team i think? which was the point in the first place? :D

kumble must be regretting the decision of late declaration. had he declared earlier with more overs to bowl at pakistan, i'm sure he could have forced a result in favor of india. atarget of 320, instead of 375 could have been interesting for both teams to defence (india) and chase (pakistan). but he himself is to blame for the blunder.

Saieen I think Kumble would have done that....definately it would have been interesting, also don't forget Pak would not have played with defensive mode as they played (specially Butt)....and more likely chances was Pakistan would have chased the target....then whole India (including yourself) would have blamed Kumble for it.....
