Re: 3rd Test: England v Pakistan at Sharjah Nov 01
I noted 2 LBW IN Pak 2nd inning. And one in 1st inning. 3 out of 14 wickets lbw. 21 pct.
No lbw in England inning. Let's see by natch end what the stats are.
The problem with drs is this - close decisions uphold umpire call. If umpire had given Younis NOT out that decision woukd have been upheld also.
Dr's should he changed such that whatever the replay shows shoukd be final.
Else umps with tendency to go one side would still impact game. This is case in point.
In fact say Younis was NOT out. The ball was very closely missing off stump. The umpire decision would have stayed.
Point is DR'S needs reform (regardless of this test). If DR'S shows ou5, go with it. If not out, go with it. Get rid of the clause - if close call umpire decision on ground stays. Because if you have confidence in technology , DO NOT rely on umpire for close calls! It is exactly the close calls for which DR'S designed.
Right now if batsman out umpire rules not out and fielding team challenges. They lose on both counts - the out batsman is declared not out. AND they lose a challenge. At least if u say it is.close call and decision on ground stands dont penalize challenging team by removing one chall3nge.
DRS is not designed to scrutinized close calls but its there to remove blunders of umpires (like of Hafeez) and not overruling his close decisions (like one of Younus khan). I am all for DRS siding umpire's close calls. We need to cut some slack to umpires.
and on game, right now its balanced evenly. 1st session will be the key. If Pakistan does not lose too many wickets (i.e more than 1 or 2), they will get the driving seat.
seems like, I have to watch the game live tonight for couple of hours. must be exciting!
aur haan, run out in a test is a gunah-e-kabeera and not sagheera
