Re: 3rd ODI: Pakistan Vs India on 11 Nov 2007 @ Kanpur
^ Atleast this way these little towns start getting recognized on the map. Plus their local businesses get a boost too. I wish PCB would do the same too.
Yaar...that's not the thing.
BCCI seems to select any city/town which has a barely decent stadium....and obviously the lobbying power of the respective zone's cricket board also weighs in.
Several test Matches/ODIs have been played at Kanpur even though the stadium is barely up to the mark, the city is one of the most polluted and shabby in the country, it does not have an airport (the teams have to make a 1.5 hours bus journey from Lucknow), the pitch is 100% lifeless for every single game and only good for notching up batting records...
The following from Cricinfo:
Constructed in one of the most polluted cities in India, Kanpur's Green Park stadium, situated close to the river Ganges, accommodates 39,255 - mostly uncovered - spectators. Established in 1945, the ground, which has seen frequent changes, lacks the tradition which some of the other premier Test grounds boast of. Its floodlights are slung low, and were used for the first time last year in a Test featuring South Africa. *A number of dull drawn games have been the feature of the Tests at Kanpur, thanks to lifeless pitches; this, in part, is the fault of the region's soil, for it does not encourage bounce and pace. *

0.1 Shoaib Akhtar to Ganguly, no run, Dropped! Would you believe it? Kamran Akmal drops a regulation 'keeper catch. It was full in length, outside off stump and Ganguly had a poke at it with an open-face of the bat. Sure, the ball was dipping as it went to the left of Akmal but he should have held it. What a start. Hold your mails. We know many of you don't rate Akmal much.
