Re: 36,000 schools built, renovated in Punjab
What school teachers are you talking about? I have loads of school teachers in my family working in Pakistan, in private AND in public/government schools, and 5000 is far from accurate. Are you talking about village salaries? It follows that the cost of living is much lower in a village, thence the lower salary. But 5000 is not the standard in Karachi, I can tell you. I'd say, it borders on 7000 per month in government schools and higher; and then in private schools its much more than that.
I do agree they should be paid more, but most of your school teachers are women who are living in households where their income is not the only income.
I think first and foremost, more needs to be budgeted towards education in the national budget, but I'd rather see most kids in pakistan get an education up to matric level throughout the country, including villages, and see teachers have modest increases in salary, than see teachers get pay increases at the expense of building new schools. You have to remember that with the total budget of Pakistan, they can only do so much. There is no way, they can have a full public school system with beautiful buildings and decent salaries like they do in the States and in European countries.
I bet that the man who polishes Mush's boot gets lot more than school teacher. And for your info, in villages its mostly male teachers and most of them do not live in the village they are posted in but have to travel 2-3 hours to reach their.
Currently the government hires all teachers and lecturers on contrat basis with no benefits at all. A lecturer gets 10000Rs and teacher 5000/-
Pakistan remains one of the countries that spend the least GDP on education compared to its neighbours.
