just because you dont see soul searching on govts part does not mean it does not happen, it may be happening it may happen later. it may not happen at all. Just because it is not visible to avg joes does not mean somewhere soemthing is not happening. it also becomes a question of priorities and resources. My only point of reference is infrastructure planning for urban areas in pakistan, when ppl were sayign govt has noplan or has no idea of issues, that was a time when govt had world bank supported projects to understand what was going on. I myself went with crews measuring the flow levels of sewage in different parts of the city at diff times to develop a clear picture of levels and then extrapolate that with population trends to see what would be the ideal solution, and then have to compare that with funding to figure out what was teh optimal solution with the finding limitations. anyways I digress.
Thats very interesting. Which cities did you study?
As for soul searching, PM has announced some sort of schools with free lodging for the poor...these govt. owned schools will be an alternative to the madressah's. Still they will be oriented towards religion, "also" teaching science etc. It's a step in the right direction, I suppose.
Not exactly. Bit of evil removed from the face of earth.
BTW I still don't quite understand what T&C's I broke earlier today? my bad, silly me has done it again. I must not ask questions or talk politics in the politics forum.
just karachi, while my brother who is an engineer and got a lot more involved in some of those projects, and actually I believe anwaar Qureshi did too, although I did not know him then.
There were other projects regarding storm water systems, water supply, environment conditions, soil erosion at beaches etc etc that I only heard about from my dad as we discussed his world bank projects.
There are even studies done on greenign of cities and bang for the buck based on teh type of trees that are used.
Pakistan is not short on brain power, it gets screwed over on two things, political instability/corruption is one where you lose so much efforts and have to redo work, trace your steps back etc etc, and teh second is lack of funds.
Werent all these Islamic militants trained by ISI to create havoc in Indian Kashmir , under the guise of Jihad and moral support?
No, these guys are a product of the Madrassas setup up to fight Soviet invasion of Afghanistan at the nehest of the CIA...
These guys should go fight India... Thats one of the few places where militant uprisings can be justified...
We are celebrating the loss of life here? Pakpatriot, this is disappointing. What difference is there between us and OBL who congratulated his misguided lot on the 9/11 attacks. What difference is there between us and those idiots on Palestenian streets exchanging sweets after 9/11. If we r going to be acting like this, then I am afraid we have already lost the moral high ground. We r not only supporting war but rejoicing in the death of so many. We don't even know yet from independent sources if any of them were innocent civilians or not.
We are celebrating the death of terrorists... "People" who would otherwise kill countless innocents and do incalculable damage to Islam as a whole... One should hope for peace, but peace is not possible in the face of such terrorists and criminals..
If you want to fight this menace Flame, you have to stop moralizing things and see things for what they are... This is a fight for the soul of Pakistan and Islam... We cant sugar coat anything, these people are terrorists and they deserved what they got... And inshallah, more such terrorists will die in the future.
Islam believes in such a punishment for such criminals... Why shouldnt we celebrate when justice is served?
