Avoiding sugar is the toughest task but if you do that; awesome results!! Done it myself! I stopped drinking usual milk tea because i cant take it without sugar and started green tea; I wonder how do people drink green tea with sugar?
Great challenge! From the amount of sugar I eat Iām surprised my teeth arenāt rotten. My personal challenge is to only have one soda a week. Gotta start somewhere, right?
Try drinking milk. I remember when I used to drink milk every day I never craved sugar.
Second thing I noticed.. when you eat sugar you crave sugar.. like your body wants to get that music going .. I know there is a also medical reason for that.
Third thing.. when you eat good quality home made food⦠you donāt crave junk..
Forth⦠treat your self with fruits⦠apple orange and banana has sugar in them.. but they release it slowly⦠so body donāt go in sugar crash.. and donāt crave sugar more .. like in second point.
Not all sugars are the same though. Not all of them are metabolized at a similar rate or in the same parts of the body. Then all foods are converted into sugar at different rates. So while most foods are converted into simple sugars before they can be utilized for energy or converted into fat, not all of them are consumed at the same rate. Something that is broken down slowly(having a low Glycemic index) is going to keep you full for longer since the sugars resulting from itās breakdown are available for a longer duration.
Tell me about it. I also started substituting soda for flavored water. Now, I drink an equal amount of regular water a couple hours after the flavored water just to make my brain think I flushed it out. My brain tricks me to believe its healthy ..but who knows?!
Update: I had coke 3 days in a row (wed, thurs, & fri). On a positive note, I finished the 12-pack, so no more coke. I think Iāll start the challenge now
I think i will join starting tommorrow as well. Theres a video on youtube by buzzfeed who did this and they saw positive results. Any sugar that we need can be obtained through fruit and honey. Also try removing artificial sweetners as well as they increase sugar craving.
Alhamdulillah, so far Iāve been sticking w/one coke a week, if at all. Iām pretty confident I will be able to maintain this, or even cut down drinking coke to once in a blue moon.
Next challenge is to cut down on sweets like cookies, cakes, jalebis, and gulab jamunsā¦This is even harder than the coke challenge. Starting off, I will only have one serving. Gradually I may be able to decrease to only a nibble.
I started this on May 22nd, I cut out all sugars, processed foods, and anything āwhiteā (pasta, flour, bread etc). I am on a doctor supervised diet plan and she did say that I could have a few selected low GI fruits like raspberries, blueberries etc. On my 4 week follow up I had lost 12 lbs. I also am moderately exercising (3-5 times a week) and eating very clean, mostly lean proteins and green leafy vegetables. Iām now into my second month, and of course with Ramadan it is a little harder, so Iām incorporating a little more fruit (but still low GI fruits) back into my diet just to offset the weakness I was feeling, but still absolutely no bad carbs. Have my next follow up after Eid, so weāll see where Iām at then!
Everybody is different with different needs. I also have PCOS which is essentially a metabolic disorder, so a low GI diet with minimal carbs is the only way I can maintain a healthy weight. My doctor has me staying at appx 25 net grams of carbs a day
I also aim to drink 100 oz of water a day (which hasnāt been happening in Ramadan of course!)
I make a detox water (water, sliced cucumber, ginger, lemon & mint) by filling a drink dispenser with water and the above items and keep it in my fridge to infuse. I aim to finish the entire dispenser in one day. Itās an amazing detox that gets rid of the bloat and keeps me hydrated
