my 3 yrs old is suffering from itching on her tummy and legs. there is no rash just dry itching. i have consulted many doctors gave her lots of medicines . even have tried many home remedies. still no improvement. please help me. any treatment or solution???
Did you try antihistamines?
i have given her anti biotics many times prescribed by dr.
any specific drug plz?
I am not a doctor. A doctor may guide you better. If her itching is due to an allergy, antihistamines might help.
HSNO5, you can direct your questions to @NavAhmed as I believe he deals with dermatological issues. Or even @Iconoclast who is also a doctor.
Itchy skin can be downright maddening. I do hope your daughter finds relief soon.
@NavAhmed and @Iconoclast plz help
When did the itching start?
If this just began this Winter, it may be due to heat drying out her skin. Moisturize her twice a day. My little one gets heat-based eczema rashes too, so I moisturize him with Aveeno twice a day and definitely after every shower. Sometimes it's more prominent when he doesn't drink enough water.
Also, Did you suddenly change laundry detergent? I use baby laundry detergent and try to keep heat at its minimum even if I have to layer up.
Colloidal Oatmeal REALLY helps. When she's in the shower, rub some on her skin and that should help calm the flareups too.
Avoid the meds because dumb*** doctors just prescribe corticosteroid creams harmful for the skin later on.
I use the Aveeno lotion twice a day.

I reserve the following for when the rashes/dryness gets out of control.
The commonest cause of itching in children with a rash is a dry skin disorder e.g eczema, atopic dermatitis or just simply dry skin. Very rarely could be allergic in nature but usually accompanies other intestinal or respiratory symptoms like cough, wheeze, diarrhoea etc on exposure to allergic substance which is usually a food item like fish, nuts, eggs, certain fruit etc
In case if your child has eczema/atopic dermatitis, then you need to understand you cannot cure it yourself, but it may just subside with time. There are several medicines like moisturisers (as mentioned by Cashmere) or different potencies of steroid creams. You should be able to control and manage the condition with daily use of a good moisturiser like aveeno, and can use steroidal creams whenever it gets worse for a period of 5 to 14 days depending upon the severity of eczema and potency of steroidal cream used. In most children eczema just subsides with time. Triggers include viral infections, irritation with chemicals and detergents, changes in weather, dust, smoke, some medicines and stress.
Many parents ask for some magic cure for eczema, but believe me there is no such cure available of irrespective of what other practitioners say. It may just go away. Many parents want allergy testing for their child which more for their own reassurance than to have realistic hope of picking up the allergen, as many times none are found, or they may be multiple triggers, or at times you find a trigger but cannot do much about it e.g dust, pollens etc. If you have strong suspicion that some particular substance is causing the itching, then you could ask your physician to arrange a test for it,
Best wishes

Since you have already consulted many doctors already, I think try getting a blood test.
It could be food allergy which can be easily overlooked
Has the child diet changed?
Milk/ wheat/ eggs allergy etc etc
If have a certain food allergy , one can have skin related issues
@NavAhmed
i never ever suspected any allergy nor the doctors. still i will discuss it with doctor.
there is NO rash on skin even if she itches . just dry itching. i m in pakistan i may no get the lotions as precribed by @Cashmere cashmbut i will try to find similar ones.
any other medical solution u could give me. TIA
Okay since you’re in Pakistan here are few ideas:
- Change the soap which you use to wash her clothes (may be allergic to that detergent powder)
- Change the soap with which you shower her. Or use it less. Harsh soap may be irritating her baby skin
- Are you using baby powder or any other fragrance powder on her after shower? STOP immediately
- Give her plenty of water to drink maybe her skin is drying out
- Coconut oil will help. But do not use too much. Coconut oil produces heat and the baby might be uncomfortable with it.
- Use a thin layer of Petroleum Jelly (Vaseline) on her skin every night and morning (a thin layer will lock in moisture)

Did you move to a different home? The water may be harsh in your new home.
7. You can try a shower filter that will make the water better for her.

Here is Colloidal Oatmeal. Mix some in her shower tub and have her sit in it. I dont know what it’s called in urdu. Maybe **Juyi ka aata. **
Sorry I didn?t see it earlier.
Though this is far off from my specialty.
From the description and the age it does seem like Eczema as Naveed has alluded to. It can be a frustrating condition to deal with, there are cases that are very severe and recurrent. Key is moistures and use hypoallergenic products. Cashmere Posts is spot on, on this.
The odd thing however, is that you have been to many doctors and non has told you this. Should be a relatively straight forward diagnosis to make.
There is no alternate to actually seeing the child by a trained professional. So I would suggest do visit a good dermatologist or two, and not rely solely upon cyber advice.
hmmm, my niece got that too.. I hope that’s scabies.. so you need to use Permethrin 5% w/w cream.. NIX is the best cream and one application is enough for cure.. if NIX isn’t available then buy Permethrin formula from GetZ pharmaceuticals.. they’re the best in Pakistan so far.. Sandoz and Glaxo Smith Kline companies are good too.. and remember, Do Not let her take hot bath before applying cream on her whole body.. and then after 12 to 15 hours of applying cream, she must take bath..
and always use SNS soap which is easily available in Pakistan..
Restored attachments:
Apply petroleum jelly after every bath. It will keep area moist for longer time.
Dove baby wash for sensitive skin.
Mix baking soda with water it also helps to stop itching. Maybe it is allergy. Find out what cause this like food or dust or bedsheet pillow or pet. Change bed sheet and pillow.
