3+provinces in Punjab?

So PTI campaigned on the promise of making southern Punjab a seperate province. PPP did the same.

But now its PML(N) which has submitted a bill to distribute Punjab in three provinces. i.e. 2 new provinces within current Punjab.

Regardless of whether it’ll pass or no (ofcourse not), do you think its a good idea?

PML-N submits bill for creation of South Punjab, Bahawalpur provinces Web Desk On Jan 28, 2019Last Updated Jan 28, 2019

**LAHORE: **Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) on Monday submitted a constitutional amendment bill in the National Assembly for the creation of ?Bahawalpur and South Punjab provinces?, reported ARY News.

Addressing a press conference alongside former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and PML-N spokesperson Marriyam Aurangzeb, Ahsan Iqbal said the PML-N had achieved another milestone by submitting a constitutional amendment bill in the National Assembly to create two new provinces of South Punjab and Bahawalpur provinces.

On behalf of his party, he extended full support to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government in creating South Punjab province.

?If the government is serious on the matter of creating the province, then the opposition will unconditionally second it,? he added.

The former interior minister also said his party had promised people for the new province as per their aspirations. ?If the incumbent government is sincere in its claim then it should move the bill forward for formation of the aforesaid provinces.?

On Jan 16, National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser had said steps were being taken to implement the plan to give South Punjab the status of the province. ?The people of South Punjab would be soon given good tidings.?

He had expressed these views while talking to members of the National Assembly belonging to Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan divisions who met him in Islamabad.

Well its quite evident that PMLN is doing politics to gain some lost territory in Punjab. They are the ones who ruled Punjab from 2008 till now but they never showed any interest in creating new provinces when they were in power. Personally i am not in favour of making new provinces since more money is needed to run the whole machinery of a new province and as we all know our khazana is already khaali. Just improve the governance in already existing provinces, make new schools, colleges, unis and hospitals there and that’s enough.

Yes we the Members of Gupshup also have a New Proposal for adding New Provinces of The OLD PUNJAB ! :biggthumb:

***Mind you there are Already two existing Provinces i.e. East Punjab and West Punjab!

So why not FIVE like the word PUNJABISTAN*** as proposed by @mahool :aejaz:

I know in Pakistan its a political and sensitive issue but the fact is a lot of countries have evolved their core provinces into many. If done with the right strategy, it helps in governance and segregation of resources. Neghboring Afghanistan has 18 provinces. India itself keeps on bringing new states from existing ones. But I doubt if it’ll ever happen.

Somehow Zardari changed the name of frontier province to KPK otherwise would still be calling it NWFP.

But when we talk about new province in Sind, PPP becomes a nationalist party immediately.

PML-N are dirty - there has to be some shh!!tty things in the details of their bill…also, i think practically its not possible at the moment…there has to be a gradual roadmap and steady development of infrastructure and governance capacity before handing over the reigns to a new province…

there is no money - existing system is so weak - why should anyone start a new province with copy paste of such a weak/disfunctional mechanism? it would be disaster…

there are many things which were devoluted to provinces under 18th amendment…but provinces have not been able manage or do anything significant…because the authority was given without any ground work or institutational capacity.

my take is…Noon league will push the bill - and as there are bound to be delays and appprehensions…they will use the delay to attack PTI and derive political leverage out of it…if they were sincere, they would’ve done in their government which had a clear majority…

since the demand is not actually coming from people but politicians, it will be a politicians power share grabbing game. and these new provinces will become versions of rural sindh.

***Yes!

you can say that again :flowers:

Well it is sarrounded by Rajistan , Baluchistan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan

So we fill in the Gap with Punjabistan*** **Plus we get rid of the British Name given to our Neighbors and bring back

HINDUSTAN **then the circle is Complete:biggthumb:

Before Pakistan Karachi was a part of Sindh , After partition it became capital of Pakistan and was declared as federal territory , Than Hyderabad was declared as capial of Sindh , Ayob shifted capital to Islamabad for a close control on capital but Karachi remand as federal part .
on 1st July 1970 Yahaya Khan issued a martial law order and created 4 provinces ,
Look at the map before one unit

Now look at Karachi in Sindh
Small area with great Sindhi heritage
Nothing helps it to become it a province

This was a Punjabi effort to create differences in the city and loot the both

SID_NY, You have to accept the fact that major population of Sindh is still Sindhi and they do not want division of Sindh at any cost. Respect the mendate of constodians of province since centuries.

The issue of Karachi in Sindh is a long-term issue that needs to be resolved before it blows up (again). It’s a shame that this issue is mixed up with ethnic identity.

GDP of Sindh is $84b. GDP of Karachi is $64b.
Budget of Sindh Govt is $10.43b . Budget of KMC is $0.71b

This centralization of resources at the provincial center is inevitably going to inflame centrifugal forces.
There needs to be greater decentralization and more devolution of resources to the division/district level.
Better wake up before this becomes a bigger mess.
