Re: 2nd Test: Pakistan v Sri Lanka at Dubai, January 8-12, 2014
Once Misbah and YK gets out match is gone that too by an innings
Re: 2nd Test: Pakistan v Sri Lanka at Dubai, January 8-12, 2014
Despite good fight-back by Younis and Misbah, Lanka hold all the aces
It is just a matter of time before one of them is dismissed and then the floodgates w'd open. Shafiq is due a big score, lacks consistency at this level.
Sarfraz cannot bat to save his life and our tail is just too long. Don't expect more than 50 runs from the last 5. would have persisted with Adnan Akmal who is slightly better with the bat than Sarfraz
Hafeez does not belong in tests. have been saying this for a while. Perhaps time to try Sohaib Maqsood (not incl. in test squad) in tests
Lastly need better test bowlers than Bhatti and Rahat. Ajmal and Junaid can only do so much
Lanka should win but Pakistan can perhaps avoid an innings defeat
Re: 2nd Test: Pakistan v Sri Lanka at Dubai, January 8-12, 2014
In the absence of very good-keepers let alone wicket-keeper batsmen in the country, perhaps it is time to consider playing Umar Akmal as a wicket-keeper-batsman in tests. His glove work is adequate plus he is a specialist batsman. For sure wicket-keeper should be judged on glove work not batting, but in the absence of a genuine test all-rounder you do need a keeper who can contribute with both bat and gloves. If he ceases to contribute, the team's construction is thrown off balance.
Re: 2nd Test: Pakistan v Sri Lanka at Dubai, January 8-12, 2014
i have now seen enough of bilawal and he is not good enough for test matches....not a bad find to fill all-rounder shoes for ODIs but he shd not play as a front-line bowler in test matches
rahat ali...who is this guy? apparently he bowls well in net ...so?
ajmal did a lot for us but running out of mileage now
I'd persist with Bilawal for lack of any other bowlers, the other option would be Anwar Ali IMO.
Rahat Ali took 6 wickets in an inning in Centurion against SA last year, 5 against minnow Zimbabwe in total of his 5 prior test matches. May be he is not able to extract advantage in dead UAE pitches.

I wouldn't break Umar Akmal just for that. Instead I'd remove Hafeez, add Sohaib and persist with a specialist keeper.

Yes he is much better than Sarfraz whos average is 20 I think in Tests and just a mediocre keeper dont know why he keeps getting selected again and again
Re: 2nd Test: Pakistan v Sri Lanka at Dubai, January 8-12, 2014
I hope Misbah and YK score centuries tomorrow
Re: 2nd Test: Pakistan v Sri Lanka at Dubai, January 8-12, 2014
MQM.
I read Geoff Lawson say that when he was the coach this guy came along with some of his other thugs and said that if I am not selected there is going to be trouble. You can probably read the story on Cricinfo. It was when this pathetic keeper just ended his time with Pakistan Under 19 or Under 21, whatever.
Then again we have had a bit of a run of producing and selecting pathetic keepers. Some pathetic in brain cells (Zulqernain), other pathetic in performance (Sarfraz), and other yet pathetic in character (Kamran Akmal).
Re: 2nd Test: Pakistan v Sri Lanka at Dubai, January 8-12, 2014
Wasim Bari’s the most pure keeper Pakistan has turned out
Battingwise Kamran Akmal was better than others but although his keeping stats are pretty decent (206 dismissal in 53 games; infact even better than Bari’s, 228 scalps in 81 matches), his glove work often left a lot to be desired.
Kamran Akmal | Pakistan Cricket | Cricket Players and Officials | ESPN Cricinfo
The two best keeper-batsmen imo were Saleem Yousuf & Moin Khan
Yousuf who played in the 80s was a safe pair of gloves and a gutsy batsman who played some memorable knocks under pressure

Golden ji Rashid Latif’s record looks very good too.

Can you point to reference on the Lawson/MQM story? He did not look quite that pathetic today and have a decent first class and U19 record.
Re: 2nd Test: Pakistan v Sri Lanka at Dubai, January 8-12, 2014
It was actually an interview, this much I know, at Cricinfo where Lawson said that Sarfraz pressurized him to select him. Showed force and threatened repercussions. I will look it up, it probably was after he left the Pakistan coaching job.
But incidents like these are why our cricket is nowhere where it could be. Regionalism, nepotism and favors. I used to cringe at the sight of seeing Abdul Qadir and Sarfaraz Nawaz both clamoring to select and make Salman Butt captain when these two doofuses used to come on PTV during matches and sports shows. And then in paper I read Butt invited both of them to his wedding ceremony.
And then once the spot fixing scandal surfaced, both Qadir and Nawaz skedaddled.
Every other person in Pakistan, seems to have agenda. It has been said before and I will say it again - our cricket national team and the PCB is a prism of what goes on in the country. Then again, most are. Bangladesh cricket, Indian, Australian, English, even West Indies.
You want to know what is going on in a particular country, just take a look at their cricket bodies.
As for Sarfaraz yeah he came out okay today, and his record is okay (batting technique aside) in domestic. But he is just another bits and pieces, parchi type of player that will be found out against most big teams. In my opinion, the minimum performance level that youngsters should aim for and have is Junaid Khan. Anything below this, and unless a player improves, he will only be a liability. Against top teams, even more.
Re: 2nd Test: Pakistan v Sri Lanka at Dubai, January 8-12, 2014
Good fight back from Pakistani batsmen. But it might not be enough. They lead of 107 runs with 7 wickets down. If they can bat til lunch tomorrow, it will become interesting again otherwise SL are still the favorites.
Re: 2nd Test: Pakistan v Sri Lanka at Dubai, January 8-12, 2014
We need another 100 runs but looks impossible
So
I hope it rains all day tomorrow Insha Allah

yea aap kah rahay hou yea Tasub. :)
It is really sad that Pakistani management is full of tasub as well as people. One can see that tasub even here on this forum, as for some, performance is irrelevant but tasub is. Some would show their tasub criticizing technique and some would like to hide behind lies.
Cricket team of any country gets selected from their performance in domestic cricket, that determines test team selection, but not in Pakistan.
For instance, Sarfaraz has better batting records than most players playing cricket for Pakistan as batsmen (Shoaib, Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq, Hafiz, Umar Amin, Khurram Manzoor … all have first class average less than 40 …. When Sarfaraz first class average is above 40 … and Sarfaraz has more 50s per inning then all of them), and Sarfaraz has similar wicket keeping records as Adnan Akmal.
Still, leave playing as wicket keeper, why these players whose batting performance are worse than Sarfaraz play for Pakistan as Batsmen and not Sarfaraz?
But than we are talking about Pakistan where player like Fawad Alam, first Pakistani player (of two) who made hundred in his test debut outside Pakistan and saved Pakistan from defeat was dropped next test, and was given two test matches after that record making test match (both far apart, without any assurance of test place) … even though his first class batting record is better than any Pakistani test players playing cricket today or in past.
For instance, Fawad Alam first class average is over 55 and he has more 50s per inning then any Pakistani test player. In comparison, first class averages of all Pakistani test players are less than 40 except few, and all have average less than 50 except Misbah whose average is 50, still less than Fawad. Even in test matches, only two Pakistani players have average above 40 (Yunus and Misbah), but Fawad whose average is also above 40 in test (though that is irrelevant, as he did not play much test cricket), is dropped from test.
Re: 2nd Test: Pakistan v Sri Lanka at Dubai, January 8-12, 2014
^^^ Actually, it is due to all these reasons I lost interest in Pakistan cricket, because team that plays for Pakistan is not team of Pakistan, but it is team of Tasub, parchi, prejudice, racism, and bigotry.

Pakistan lost by 9 wickets. One bad session at the start of the match cost Pakistan the match, still they should focus on the next match and tie the series.

sad..but looks like guppies have given up on pakistani team! no post on the last day! i dont blame them.....this is one hell of a boring team with no stars...we need some stars....that is how pakistani cricket flourishes
