Re: 2nd TEST MATCH : SRI LANKA -v- ENGLAND @ SINHALESE SPORTS CLUB, COLOMBO
There goes his Essex team-mate. Malinga's struck twice with the new ball already, and here comes the hat-trick delivery with Matt Prior having the honour of facing. He's a tough cookie, Prior, and will be resolute in his mission of fending it off.
82.4 Malinga to Bopara, OUT, no doubts about that one - too good for Bopara who is beaten immediately with a coruscating yorker, moving away, and he's too late with a vain stab down of the bat
**RS Bopara b Malinga 0 (1b 0x4 0x6) SR: 0.00
*A shame for Cook's innings to end in this way, with his hundred in sight, and particularly as that seems to have been something of an error in judgement. He did have a life or two on the way, but all the same that's been a great innings and will give him some much-needed confidence following his failures in the first Test. **Here's his Essex team-mate, Ravi Bopara *
82.3 Malinga to Cook, OUT, a huge wicket there, Cook trudges off dejectedly and somewhat unamused as the finger is raised for one which pitched pretty much on leg, if not just outside, and would have whirred well on its way outside leg

There is a big cry about Peterson's catch, who was the Umpire responsible for the wrong decision? and who should have referred to the third Umpire? Any idea if you have seen the match?

umpires for this match are DJ harper and aleem dar.
Vaas to Pietersen, OUT, and the plan has worked, it's a brilliant piece of work at slip, but wait, there's controversy. Pietersen went for a drive at a wide ball, nicked to the third slip, Silva, who dived to his left and grabbed the catch low to the turf, it bobbles up and Sangakkara comes from first slip to take the rebound. Pietersen waits as the umpires consult, Harper raises his finger, but TV replays show the ball appears to have brushed the ground before the initial take by Silva. Pietersen waits inside the boundary, as he did at Lord's earlier this year against India, but there's no overturning this decision and he's off
KP Pietersen c Sangakkara b Vaas 1 (6m 5b 0x4 0x6) SR: 20.00
as you can read, harper was the umpire in the middle while dar was the leg umpire. harper did consulted with dar and upheld his decision against pietersen. he did not refer to the 3rd umpire bcos that is only possible if both umpires differ in their opinions. in this case seems like dar too had the view that it was a clean catch thus harper went with his initial decision.

Sidebottom to Vandort, OUT, a breakthrough almost out of nowhere, Vandort plays across a delivery which is heading towards middle and leg, big shout from Sidebottom and Harper raises his finger...looks like it would have taken leg stump and it's a vital wicket, can England make it count?
Re: 2nd TEST MATCH : SRI LANKA -v- ENGLAND @ SINHALESE SPORTS CLUB, COLOMBO
** England 351
Sri Lanka 379/4 (128.0 ov)
Sri Lanka lead by 28 runs with 6 wickets remaining in the 1st innings**
**Stumps - Day 3
a slow day of play, even by SL standards. run rate below 3. however captain jaywardene is still at the crease not out on 167*. silva was unlucky to get out on 49, missing out on a deserving 50.
REMARKS BY THE COMMENTATOR:
***Close*. And Sri Lanka's day by a country mile. Mahela Jayawardene has played a really outstanding anchor innings, chanceless and paced to perfection. Vandoort completed a good hundred, albeit with a few slices of luck, and Silva chipped in with 49. The bowlers huffed and puffed. Sidebottom was the pick, and not just because he took another wicket, Harmison got better as the day went on, but Panesar was a big let down.
The key here is that Sri Lanka have a first-innings lead, seven wickets in hand and two days to play with. What's more, the pitch is turning almost square, albeit with a complete lack of pace. They are completely in the driving seat.
Re: 2nd TEST MATCH : SRI LANKA -v- ENGLAND @ SINHALESE SPORTS CLUB, COLOMBO
** England 351 & 43/0 (9.0 ov)
Sri Lanka 548/9d
** England trail by 154 runs with 10 wickets remaining
Day 4 - Session 3
jayawardene got out on 195 and ths missed out on a highly deserving double century. nevertheless, SL had a lead of 197 which is not cut down to 154 with captain vaughan on 25 and cook on 15. with just over an hour of play today and 1 full day tomorrow, ENG have lots on their plate to survive and get out of this test with a draw.
i'm disappointed in SL for playing slowly and consuming over 185 overs to score 548 runs with a run rate of below 3.

**Out come the lightmeters. Aleem Dar looking at his much as an octogenarian would ponder an X Box. Eventually he holds it the right way up and offers the light to the batsmen who are off in a shot. The Barmy Army sing the praises of Dar.
