These new pacers like Sohail Khan and Talha are clearly not ready for test cricket. Too wayward and no swing and seam. They can't bowl according to a plan and can't even contain runs and provide support. They are not super quick (150 kph+) either.

Yasir Arafat is also definitely a class below Razzaq as an all rounder. Pakistan is missing the players lost to ICL (Yousuf, Razzaq, Shabbir Ahmad, Rana) and other issues (Asif, Shoaib). They need to bring these ICL players and Asif back (Shoaib is past his use date) and get a new wicket keeper.

I cannot fully fathom the Pakistani obsession with speed. Any discussion around a Pakistani pacer revolves around his speedgun results.

Apparently any Pakistani bowler who bowls less than 140 Km/h is a loser in the eyes of Pak fans. Wicket taking bowlers like Tanvir & Rao are sidelined from Test Matches because they don't have that 'menacing' pace.

Speed is good....but you can take wickets with swing and accuracy too....think McGrath or even Pakistan's own Akram.

Having been spoiled by Waqar Younis and Akhtar, it seems to me that Pak fans get easily excited by 'uncooked' bowlers like Talha/Sohail Khan just by virtue by their "speed" reputation in the domestic circuit.

Wasim was quite quick (85-87 mph) if not express in his prime. Rao is a medium pacer. While I agree pace is not everything you need a bit of both pace and swing to be consistently effective in test cricket.

So my arguements on Kamran Akaml still stands

59.4 Danish Kaneria to Samaraweera, 1 run, dropped, Kamran this time, outside off, stretches forward and gets the edge, Kamran puts it down.

Easy, regulation catch missed by Akmal. I was watching the match when he dropped this and I just wanted to pound something extremely hard.

Akmal dropped Samaraweera on 60 something…now he’s at 133…and probably will go onto make a double hundred again…and Pakistan will be in the same position like they were in the last game.

Now I dont give a frikkin damn if the wicket keeper cant score 100’s…but these kind of regulation catches NEED to be taken and these catches go on to become the deciding factor between trying to win a match or trying to save a match. Had that catch been taken…things could have been very different. Akmal has been doing this for more than 2 years now and Kaneria has been hit the hardest by it in tests and Afridi in ODI’s. You just CANNOT keep defending him by bringing up his once in a blue moon batting heroics.

Now he will come in the 2nd innings and score a quickfire 100 and we will all be happy. No thanks…I’d rather have a wicket keeper who will score 50 odd runs or less but Pakistan will still be in a position to win the game…rather than a keeper will score a 100 for Pakistan to draw a game.

i dont think pakis have any obsession wid speed … Asif is an example of that … (asif minus chars)

Danish has become Saqqy. Easy to read, more easy to predict. Just go through his last 4 overs, you can predict the next ball and its treatment. The guy needs some psyche change, don't know if Abdul Qadir is providing any tips or not. He must call Warne to sort his problems out, or just retire himself. Malik is not even a part time bowler anymore, but he is putting more pressure than our main specialist spinner.

The pitch might not be as dead as we are presuming. Will have to wait and see how the Lankans bowl and how efective they are.
