When Misbah blocks or play slow, some people make excuses that he is consolidating the inning. But, there is no place in ODI for consolidating the inning with blocking or playing too slow. Player may slow down for a while and not hit aerial shots for 4s or 6s, but stop scoring or scoring too slow, and player would make team lose the match.
bhai sahib, Misbah was captain of team where no else try to stay on wicket and make it count, so being a captain of the team, he had to make sure that at least he stays there… i even do not recall when was the last time any Pakistani batsmen made a century.. also in this world cup he merely managed one that is against Ireland… so there is a reason of Misbah’s blocking and has been discussed here gazillion time and now he have retired you can bring in Fawad and tell him to not to block..
As for Aus and NZ earlier game, we can see that Aus got all out for 151 in 32 overs … but what NZ did?
Even when loosing wickets at regular interval, NZ still played fast (not thinking that they have 50 overs to make 152) and made the required runs in 23 overs @ SR 6.6.
As for final, I think Australia might win but NZ have chance too, and win or lose, my feeling is that, batting from both sides would not be as boring as Indian batting.
well … Pak vs SA (I am giving this example as I was observing the match, because some were defending that Misbah comes when score is low, so he try to consolidate, and I wanted proof that this is not the case).
So, here it is: Pakistan was 92 for 1 in 16 overs … and then lost second wicket at 92 when Misbah came to crease. What Misbah did? Block, block … block. His first 9 runs came in 29 balls. His slow batting effected Younis game too, and he also started playing slow (even though with Sarfraz, Younis was scoring at reasonable pace). No singles … just tuk tuk tuk tuk and occasional boundary. Later batsmen also came under pressure and got out trying to accelerate the score. Result, Pakistan was all out for 222 … when second wicket at 92 in 16 overs meant, Pakistan should have made 300 plus runs.
Same in Ireland match. Misbah came on crease and singles stopped. Tuk tuk tuk tuk … occasional 4 or 6. Even Sarfraz batting slowed down, because of no quick singles. One could have seen pressure on Sarfraz face. Shows that Misbah tuk tuk not only slow down the scoring but put pressure on other batsmen too.
The better team on the day won. 99 out of 100 times I would back the team batting first and scoring 300+ in a big game to win. The Indian team played well throughout the tournament. Our bowling and fielding especially was a pleasant surprise.
I had predicted before the start of the WC that it would be an Aus-NZ final and NZ will win. Rooting for the black caps [emoji4]
That is my feeling. The way both teams play, they go in with full force hitting the ball, regardless of wicket losses. That is especially true with NZ.
No doubt, both teams would play with josh as they play all their matches with josh, full commitment, without fear, and without pity. … As for who would win, my feeling is that Australia would win as they are stronger team, but then NZ is not too far behind and have good chance of wining the match (NZ did win their WC pool match with Aus). Anyhow, I believe Australian chance of winning the match is 60 percent and NZ chance of winning is 40 percent.
