Re: 2nd Quarter-Final: India v Australia at Ahmedabad, Thurs March 24
Prediction for this match:
Batting - Edge India - India has a very indepth batting line up. Australia had some big names such as Hayden, Symonds and Gilchrist retire and thus are not as formidable as they once were.
Bowling - Tie - Australia's face pace attack led by Brett Lee and Shaun Tait will counter-balance India's spin attack. No team will dominate each other in the bowling attack.
Fielding - Edge Australia - Australia is clearly the better fielding team with the spectacular catches and run stoppages by Australia.
If India bats first:
Indian batters will get off to a good start scoring mid-centuries before succumbing to Brett Lee's pace attack. Middle order will again fail to perform, scoring between 20-30 runs before getting out. While the bottom order will stabilize things, but Australian fielding will stifle the run rate. India will not go over 5 runs per over. India will make between 250-270 runs.
Australia will get off to a good start as well, but Indian spin attack will take its toll, and one of the Australian openers will go in the first 10 overs. Middle order will continue their pace attack but there will be a steady toll on the wickets. But the bottom order will stabilize. Australia will defeat India by a razor thin margin in the 48 or 49th over.
If Australia bats first:
Australia will get off to a bad start, losing both openers in the first 10 overs. Middle order will stabilize things and establish a solid partnership of 100 runs. But more wickets will fall and lower order failing to come through. Australia will make between 230 - 260 runs.
India will start off flying. Scoring big runs. Tendulkar will only score single runs and go out. India will lose big wickets but the run rate will be kept up by the indepth Indian batting line up. Australia will do its best to restrict the runs. But the deep Indian battling line up will be the key difference. India will defeat Australia by the 47th over.

I don't know what is a bigger celebration. Pak win in 1 QF in style and conviction OR India loosing to Aus and the tears of 1 Billion cricket fanatics.
Or if things go other way, cursing Pakistani players if they lost to India in SF.

IMO getting to semi-final is a bonus, even if we crash out I will be okay but that should not be without a fight ![]()

Team batting second has a better chance of winning..says the parrot who got killed by BJP.
Re: 2nd Quarter-Final: India v Australia at Ahmedabad, Thurs March 24
The team that scores more runs will win this match.
Re: 2nd Quarter-Final: India v Australia at Ahmedabad, Thurs March 24
India has unquestionably the more talented batting and Australia's pace attack is better but the team that handles pressure better will win IMO.

From the previous games, it appears that India will struggle to defend any total, so playing first may not be in India's interest.

batting second and chasing under lights will not be easy either esp. if Aussies do go on to post a 280 +/- total. So both teams need to be 'mentally' prepared either way
Re: 2nd Quarter-Final: India v Australia at Ahmedabad, Thurs March 24
Scary thing is both teams are not playing well. So law of averages - both may click. Could be close.
Am not a big fan of overbuilding innings by giving too many dot balls (GA would disagree). In the match before last (against SA?), Gambhir slowed things down, put pressure on Tendulkar who went for an uncharacteristic shot. Also, not a big fan of slowing down before a milestone such as a 100. Just play your game, don't pay attention to individual score. Things will be fine.
Re: 2nd Quarter-Final: India v Australia at Ahmedabad, Thurs March 24
But if I am not mistaken, Gambhir's eventual SR was around 90% against RSA so it was not him or Sachin but the late middle order that ruined all the good work
Re: 2nd Quarter-Final: India v Australia at Ahmedabad, Thurs March 24
^ You are correct. Eventually his strike rate picked up. But there was a stretch when we had about 8-10 dot balls in a row, that appeared to lose momentum for India. (But you have been right about Misbah and Younis, I felt the same about them also).
My other beef has been running between the wickets. In the old days, if the balls is hit in front of the wicket, the batsman calls, if hit behind, non-striker calls. There have been too many run outs and near misses - all due to lack of following fundamentals. And then sometimes there is an easy single for the taking, but it is not taken. Or the 1st run is not run hard, so miss out on 2nd run or 3rd run. Cant afford to give up easy runs, run loosely and run each other out. If we do the little things right, we should be OK.
Re: 2nd Quarter-Final: India v Australia at Ahmedabad, Thurs March 24
Whatever team chases the target will win. The first team batting will lose.
Re: 2nd Quarter-Final: India v Australia at Ahmedabad, Thurs March 24
forget everything just tell whether tendulkar is making century or not?
no need to play for so many option, put all money on his century!
Re: 2nd Quarter-Final: India v Australia at Ahmedabad, Thurs March 24
I think 1 team will lose eventually. What do you guys think? ![]()
