2nd ODI: Pakistan v Zimbabwe at Harare, Oct 3, 2015

Zimbabwe 276/6 (50.0 ov)
Pakistan **174/6 (37.0 ov)
**
Not much batting to come but Malik and Yamin have given Pak outside hope

Top order has failed in all the games played so far (2 T20Is and 2 ODIs).

Batting remains very inconsistent

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v Zimbabwe at Harare, Oct 3, 2015

Zimbabwe (276/6)
Pak 256/8 (48 overs)

Match stopped by Lankan umpire because of bad light and it looks like Zim is going to win on D/L method.

Cannot honestly say that the light was much worse than when they resumed play after the rain interruption. Even Zimbabwe commentators saying it is a bit unfair on Pak and Malik and they should have played the game till the end.

Shoaib (played an absolute blinder, singlehandedly getting Pak this close) denied his century by the Lankan umpire

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v Zimbabwe at Harare, Oct 3, 2015

I did watch the matching when Pakistan needed 60 runs off 10 overs with 2 wkts in hand. The commentators did say the "light is getting worse by the minute".

It is the umpires job to ensure player safety. And not worry about how this will impact fans. The light meter is there for a reason.

Of course even the commentators are fans of the game. The game was poised for an exciting finish. And none of us wanted to be robbed of that.

To criticize the umpires on this is not correct. If the light meter says it is dangerous, it is dangerous. It is a dangerous game with fading light.

Since Pakistan was 76 for 6, it was always fighting an uphill battle. In a way Zimbabwe deserved to win this. Since they led all of the game.

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v Zimbabwe at Harare, Oct 3, 2015

I don't deny that the light was bad or had deteriorated but some kind of warning should have been given to the players and batsmen in particular

allowing the game to reach a climax despite the bad light and then stopping it abruptly was farcical to say the least. They could have stopped the game much earlier

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v Zimbabwe at Harare, Oct 3, 2015

We don't know whether the umps had a chat with each captain or not - a warning as you describe it. If a warning or notification is given it should be given to BOTH - and not just especially to the batsmen.

As Professionals, the players must have been aware of the light situation.

The could have stopped the game earlier. But didn't. The commentators did say the light was getting WORSE with each passing minute. If that was the case, the light was brighter earlier. Hence play was allowed to continue.

It is not an umpires job to use discretion when it comes to SAFETY of the players. They shoukd call it when the science - the light meters - tells them it is too risky to continue.

Why didn't they use those lights that are used nowadays in IPL.

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v Zimbabwe at Harare, Oct 3, 2015

very sad. Though It should be the batters call to play or not to play as only two overs were left.. but it is sad that we did so under performed even against Zimbabwe...

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v Zimbabwe at Harare, Oct 3, 2015

Imad Waseem sitting out this game and Yasir Shah bowling only six overs were team blunders. Asad Shafiq getting another chance in ODI after many failures was another. The debutant Asif was a complete failure. If he is an allrounder, why was he sent to open while Hafeez was there? Too many mistakes that needed a heroic effort in the end to try and salvage.
