2nd ODI: Pakistan v New Zealand at Queenstown, Jan 26, 2011

We got hammered in the first game thanks to another inept batting performance. Not all is lost though and Pakistan can still make a strong comeback in this series

I would however change the team and juggle the batting order slightly. Drop Asad and open with Kamran Akmal and the explosive Ahmed Shehzad

Kamran Akmal
Ahmed Shehzad
Hafeez
Misbah (your best batsman should play the max. number of overs)
Younis
Umar Akmal
Afridi
Razzaq
Sohail Tanvir
Abdur Rehman
Umar Gul/ Shoaib Akhtar

Asad Shafiq should never have been selected for the world cup. Like Azhar Ali, Asad is more of a test batsman and PCB should not ruin his career by playing him in limited overs cricket. How I wish that PCB had not made the blunder of dropping Yousuf

Although our overall record (48-33) against NZ is good, it is our performance in NZ that is worth bearing in mind here, the W/L ratio drops to 12-21 in NZ

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v New Zealand at Queenstown, Jan 26, 2011

start: 11:00 local; 22:00 GMT

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v New Zealand at Queenstown, Jan 26, 2011

Hafeez should be dropped he is out of form

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v New Zealand at Queenstown, Jan 26, 2011

^ What about Actor (he went for 12 RPO today) too? I w'd probably give him one more game

Had Yousuf not been omitted this would have been my top 6

Kamran Akmal
Ahmed Shehzad
Umar Akmal
Misbah
Yousuf
Younis (consolidator rather than accelerator of innings)

need to send Umar and Misbah early in order to make the best use of the initial overs and PP

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v New Zealand at Queenstown, Jan 26, 2011

Misbah and Younis We dont need two consolidator .......drop Umar akmal

and speaking of Akhtar yeah he is bowling terribly off late :(

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v New Zealand at Queenstown, Jan 26, 2011

^ Misbah is our best batsman right now

agreed Umar Akmal is in terrible form but who would you replace him with?

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v New Zealand at Queenstown, Jan 26, 2011

yeah misbah os our best batsman right now no doubt.......replace umar with Ahmad

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v New Zealand at Queenstown, Jan 26, 2011

but if you are dropping both Hafeez and Umar Akmal who are you replacing them with, Ahmed + ?

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v New Zealand at Queenstown, Jan 26, 2011

I see Waleed, you do not want to drop Asad..

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v New Zealand at Queenstown, Jan 26, 2011

I believe asad shafiq is a good batsman and must be given some more chance.

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v New Zealand at Queenstown, Jan 26, 2011

But it actually still does not answer my Q :D

Ahmed is already in my team

Replacing Umar and Hafeez with Asad + ?

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v New Zealand at Queenstown, Jan 26, 2011

Hafeez should not be opening right now...agree to put in Kamran with in-form Ahmed Shehzad...
also i agree with GA that Misbah should be in earlier...but Afridi is deciding the batting line up....so he won't send he "soon to be successor" earlier...I want to be proven wrong here by afridi...
Also YK is a gem guys...its just was an off game...you need him in the team right now..whomever captains, YK is the best VC for them...or at least a good source of advice...
If you drop Umar, then Asad can replace him ...also akhtar is on one game, off the next..so you never know...

So my line up would be
Kamran
Shehzad
Misbah << agree but won't happen
Younis
Umar / Asad
Afridi
Razzaq
Gul
Sohail
A Rehman / Ajmal
Wahab or Akhtar

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v New Zealand at Queenstown, Jan 26, 2011

Well…the same team which lost the Ist ODI so terribilly will win the other match easily…so shuffling of players is less important than the attitude towards a certain match… :jhanda:

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v New Zealand at Queenstown, Jan 26, 2011

afridi shud only open

This shud be the batting order i know it wont happen cus waqar is too stupid to try anything new.

Afridi (even if he can get quick 30-40 runs and power plays suits the way he plays)
Misbah ( he is in good form so why wait. i dont want to see hafeez with another 0
Abdul Razaq
Umar Akmal
Ahmed shahzad
Younis
Kamran Akmal
Abdur rehman
Wahab riaz
Sohail tanvir
Shoaib akhtar

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v New Zealand at Queenstown, Jan 26, 2011

Its ridiculous that people want Hafeez or Asad out after one game performance but no one pointing out at Kamran or other players. Did anyone actually watch the game how ball was swinging, seaming off pitch???

I just don't want to see Akmal brothers in the team, they have contributed what they could now their 'best before' use day has passed.

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v New Zealand at Queenstown, Jan 26, 2011

Get rid of Kamran and Umar Akmal. Rest are fine.

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v New Zealand at Queenstown, Jan 26, 2011

OK I am probably being a bit harsh on Asad. I don't think they w'd drop him after just one game (hope he makes me eat my words in this game..) but the batting order is just not right. Misbah needs to come in at 1-down or 2-down. And Afridi w'd never drop Kamran Akmal

On second thoughts this should be the team

Kamran Akmal
Ahmed Shehzad
Misbah-ul-Haq
Asad Shafiq
Younis Khan
Shahid Afridi
Abdur Razzaq
Wahab Riaz
Sohail Tanvir
Abdur Rehman
Umar Gul/ Shoaib Akhtar

You Do have a point but I don't think they will drop Kamran Akmal because he is in Afridi's good books

Why no Umar Gul? The problem with this batting order, with all the big-hitters coming up the order, is that there will be no one left to make good use of the second (batting) power play

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v New Zealand at Queenstown, Jan 26, 2011

He tried it already, didn’t work.

Agreed :k:

That is a problem, if Afridi is captain then Kamran will be there, if Kamran is there then Umar will be there too.

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v New Zealand at Queenstown, Jan 26, 2011

Hope Shahzad and Boom Boom Afridi have a big game. They are match winners.

Re: 2nd ODI: Pakistan v New Zealand at Queenstown, Jan 26, 2011

Akmals need to go! doesn't matter how they play in the next match these brothers are turned out to be a real bad names for Pakistan cricket team... the are the root cause of playing politics ( after Shoaib)
