Re: 2nd ODI - India vs Sri Lanka @ Rajkot. Feb 11, 2007.
According to willow.tv
I think you're referring to the D/N match schedule. Only the first ODI was D/N. Rest are all daytime games.
Re: 2nd ODI - India vs Sri Lanka @ Rajkot. Feb 11, 2007.
According to Cricinfo it is 4 GMT which is going to be 11 PM EST Feb 10

Re: 2nd ODI - India vs Sri Lanka @ Rajkot. Feb 11, 2007.
I don't know what has changed but if I was given the option today of following India-SL or Pak-SA match, I would choose PAK-SA. (me an Indian, for those who don't know)
May be it has to do with the match being played on the dusty dead pitches in India and furthermore if the venue is in small towns like Rajkot, Cuttack, Indore etc...it has B O R I N G written all over it.
Re: 2nd ODI - India vs Sri Lanka @ Rajkot. Feb 11, 2007.
^Of the three one dayers in SA-Pak series the team batting first rattles up 350+ scores. Now tell me where did u get that logic from. Do u prefer watching some nanga gori having sun bath, then go ahead and watch it.
Re: 2nd ODI - India vs Sri Lanka @ Rajkot. Feb 11, 2007.
^ See I am not a huge fan of the ODI game format no matter where the game is played.
It is just that I feel that performances on Indian pitches esp by Indian players is not an accurate reflection of their talent (or the lack of it). Now tomorrow Uthappa or Sehwag or Dhoni may score a century and you will see TOI/HT/Rediff going gaga about it....Then they will be included in the team for an overseas match where their short-comings will invariably get revealed.
All I am saying is that, from an arm-chair critic point of view , I find matches played in India of no analytical significance.
Re: 2nd ODI - India vs Sri Lanka @ Rajkot. Feb 11, 2007.
sorry some1, but I used to like your post. But now days you are obsessed with toi and rediff that your reasoning is taking a dive. If you are a true cricket lover why do u care as to what is written in toi and rediff.
U should remember that 4 years ago in SA, india was in the finals. The team then was not much different from this one. At that time too we were written off.
These papers and sites are the one which kicks the indian cricketer the hardest when they looses. Its their job and they get payed for it. How does that bother you. You should not become too negative about it.
Is india the only country having such hiper sensitive and sensationalist media. !!
Re: 2nd ODI - India vs Sri Lanka @ Rajkot. Feb 11, 2007.
You know I could write a book on this subject because it is very close to my heart.
First of all I totally agree with you. Look at the American media's obsession with Ana Nicole Smith and Paris Hilton. But NYT/Washington Times/LA Times/etc have not become tabloids the way TOI/HT have.
Also consider the fact that India has far more problems than US, far more bad news to report than the US. Yet you will see cricketers and bollywood stars (or some barely dressed model walking down the ramp) on the front pages of our "mainstream" media on a daily basis. I know there is a commercial element to it but the Indian mainstream media is now beginning to clearly go overboard with populist journalism. Its amazing how many "sex" related Q&A and related columns appear on TOI/HT/etc. You would think that in a country of 1 billion people , that would be the least of our problems. If that wasn't bad, now the friggin TOI in Mumbai also comes with a Bombay Times Supplement and Mumbai Mirror that has more of the same crap ("Urmila caught talking for hours on cellphone").
Are cricketers and Bollywood stars , the only heroes we got in India. Most importantly, in my opinion, the talents of majority of Indian Cricketers is not consistent with the coverage they get.
When I was in India last year, a bus fell over the bridge in Thane and more than 40 people got killed. Amazingly, it was reported on the 2nd page of TOI behind news of India-England match news on the first page. This is what I am talking about.
Re: 2nd ODI - India vs Sri Lanka @ Rajkot. Feb 11, 2007.
I agree with Some1 on the point that cricket gets more than necessary coverage in india and pak, maybe even SL. Its a desi mentality not limited to india only. We can whine about it but who can say no to 1/3rd of the world's population?
Also Some1 loves the game more than he loves the colours of the pyjamas the players are wearing. Many people will respect that. And its true for the game's sake, a tense match being played in a minefield somewhere in england is more truer to the game than watching your favourite pinch hitter make the ball constantly disappear out of the ground on a pancake pitch. Reminds me of India vs Pak 2nd test last year. Yes it was fun watching Afridi smack Harbajhan for 4 sixes on a dead pitch but whats the point if he cant do an encore anywhere outside Pakistan?
Re: 2nd ODI - India vs Sri Lanka @ Rajkot. Feb 11, 2007.
^ I read the "epaper" format of DAWN and it does not appear to be half as bad as our Times Of India/Hindustan Times (and even Indian Express is following suit).
These Indian newspapers have become National Enquirers for all practical purposes.
Some months ago, I was reading a column by Ayaz Amir in the DAWN. He was writing about his visit to India. He made a similar observation about Indian Newspapers about how most "news" was just about Cricket and Bollywood.

I agree with you completely on this. I hate reading TOI and HT. These papers are distroying journalism in our country. I come from the south. I read "The hindu", "the new indian express" and the regional dailies, which has still lesser sensationalism associated with it. I think this sensationalism was required to boost their sales because of the many news channels that sprang up in India in last 5 years. In order to sell their papers they have to bank on sensationalism. Think about it. In kerala there was only one to two channels 6 years ago. But now there is more than 10 channels, and half of them news based.
I dont know the owner of HT is but I think TOI has a gora guy heading it. I think TOI has become so useless that I stopped visiting those pages like 2 years ago. Many times I have written to them about their stupidity in promoting cricket over national issues. I have no idea about their print media. But I gather that they have enough admirs in India and their sales are not looking down anyway, so why bother. If some people are stupid and want to get entertained then let them get entertained. There are other options for your right then why dont you use them. I think the best cricketing evaluations are done in "the hindu" with good language and very good analaysis.
Re: 2nd ODI - India vs Sri Lanka @ Rajkot. Feb 11, 2007.
^Agree.
Unfortunately in the North, publications such as "The Hindu" and "Frontline" are good for only those preparing for Civil Services Exam.
