In addition to the above, I was surprised when Jones asked Woolmer a question regarding Malik's batting, and as to whether or not he (Woolmer) thinks he is playing for his record or for his team (since he missed out on two centuries, in back to back matches). I just thought that was a bit awkward. With the way Malik batted during the first few overs of this game (with his usual flashy style), I am uncertain as to what exactly in a mindset Jones was in while he asked that question.
In any case, it was irrelevant, hence, not needed to be asked.
We really need to take a look at our top order. Do we really want Akmal to be our long term opener, home and abroad, and the in WC? On the basis of 2 innings on a flat deck? I am not saying that he isn't capable, but I think it puts undue pressure on him. Look how effective he is in tests when he comes down the order. Surely Pakistan can has an opener as good as Akmal if not better?
Gilchrist has been successful for Australia sure, but his style is very different from Akmal. Gilchrist hits over the top which is why he has been so successful. We have NO ONE in the top 3 that can play an innings like Sehwag did yesterday. That sort of innings just demoralizes the opposition and takes the game away from them. It's even more important to have a player like that now that power plays have been introduced.
