2nd amendment of USA constitution

I can guarantee that a majority of people in USA don’t even know the real reason behind the infamous second amendment, I.e. the right to bear arms.

What do you think? (can someone turn into a poll)

  1. Self defense
  2. Hunting
  3. Target practice.
  4. Stop army to illegally takeover your house or belongings.
  5. Don’t know

Don’t Google

Re: 2nd amendment of USA constitution

1 would be obvious choice but you wouldn't post this here if the obvious choice was the right one.

I'll go with number 4.

Re: 2nd amendment of USA constitution

CENTCOMM pai or his other nick TLK, what do you think?

Btw, as per SC, the right to bear arms was taken in with the whole amendment which also mentions a well regulated militia. I am thinking that aside from having a standing army, the creation of national guard takes care of that.

On the first point, did you know that the US army strength overall was less than 10,000 men at the outbreak of the Mexican - American war? Overwhelming majority of the men were barely trained and then sent, so I am thinking that 2nd amendment would be helpful. Of course, rape of mexican women and looting kind of ensured that they weren't a well-regulated militia at all.

Re: 2nd amendment of USA constitution

Regulated militia acting as a backup army was one fold. Other reason was for the citizens to defend themselves against govt abusing it's power.

Re: 2nd amendment of USA constitution

But isn't armed insurrection against the law regardless of the govt act?

Re: 2nd amendment of USA constitution

Depends if the govt's act was constitutional to began with. Like in case of Syria where Asad is using his army to kill his own citizens - framers of the U.S. constitution were afraid of such abuse by the govt, and gave rights to common citizens to defend

Re: 2nd amendment of USA constitution

I was right then :)
