25 Hindu girls abducted every month, claims HRCP official

As many as 20 to 25 girls from the Hindu community are abducted every month and converted forcibly, said Amarnath Motumal, an advocate and council member of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan.

“There is no official record to support this statement, but according to estimates, in Karachi alone, a large number of Hindu girls are being kidnapped on a routine basis,” Motumal told The News. “The families of the victims are scared to register cases against the influential perpetrators as death threats are issued to them in case they raise their voice. So, the victims choose to remain silent to save their lives,” he said.

Motumal said the word ‘Hindu’ had become an insult and a kind of abuse for the Hindu community. “Almost 90 per cent of the Hindu community comprise poor and impoverished families whose needs and rights have been neglected by the ones at the helms of power,” he said, adding that since a majority of the people feel helpless, only a few families come to him with their cases.

A former MPA, Bherulal Balani, said that the Hindu girls, especially the ones belonging to scheduled castes, were mostly being abducted from the Lyari area. “Once the girls are converted, they are then sold to other people or are forced to do illegal and immoral activities,” Balani said. He added the perpetrators were very powerful and that was the reason that no cases were being registered against them.

The number of attacks against the Hindu community has increased in the interior Sindh during the last three months. At least nine incidents have been reported which range from forced conversion of Hindus to rape and murders.

In one incident, a 17-year-old girl ‘K’ was gang-raped in Nagarparker area. In another incident, a 15-year-old girl ‘D’ was allegedly abducted from Aaklee village, Tharparkar, and was forced to convert. About 71 families migrated from the village in protest against the girl’s abduction.

Moreover, the Hindu communities were not even spared on the occasion of their joyous festival of Holi as two girls, Anita and Kishni, were kidnapped in Kotri. Moreover, two Hindu boys, Ajay and Sagar, were abducted from another place on the same day.

One Amir Gul was murdered in the beginning of March in Tando Haider, Umerkot, allegedly by a landlord. Later in the month, a boy, Kishan Kumar, was kidnapped from Kandhkot, Jacobabad.

MPA Pitamber Sewani told The News that these acts were being done by certain elements who believe that these minority communities might support the government in the upcoming local bodies’ elections, and these elements want to harass them.

However, President Pakistan Hindu Council Ramesh Kumar criticised the minorities’ representatives for not raising their voice at relevant forums. He said that they were simply representing their respective parties and not the poor people. He added that poor economic conditions had led to an increase in kidnapping cases in the province, especially in the Kandhkot and Jacobabad areas.

Coordinator HRCP Task Force Sindh Dr Ashothama Lohano told The News the according to their one fact-finding report, the most affected persons of violence belonged to Hindu and Christian communities. He said that various reasons have been cited for this. “The recent wave of extremism is one reason, which has destroyed the harmony of the land of Sufis. Another reason is the destruction of the agriculture sector and small markets that has led to frustration and lawlessness. Yet another reason is that the elected representatives are working only for the party and not for the community,” Dr Lohano added.

He further said that minority communities were easy targets as the Hindus were generally hesitant to raise voice against the injustices. “When the Hindu communities become politically active, they are blamed for having Indian connections,” doctor Lohano said.

well these kinds of issues do happen in remote areas of pakistan and these are not isolated to hindu girls only.
if you go through statistics there are more rapes and kidnapping of muslim girls than figure you had quoted.
as for conversion surely there would be forced conversions but in real forced conversion is no conversion and it doesnt mean she becomes muslims.

furthermore i remember a case where two hindu girls left their home and found refuge in a madrassa and they wanted to become muslims whereas their parents were insisting they are kidnapped to drama ended when girls came on camera and admitted they have left house voluntarily.

many families report the issue as forced conversion to avoid bad name but in real chances are these do happen.

as for hindu boys kidnapping unfortunately yes this happen and not limited to just hindu boys...

so please chill before you bring in hindu muslim pakistani thing in it whatever ills you had quoted happen to anyone here whether muslim or hindu or christian thats another thing HRCP finds it more interesting bringing in minority color in it.

I am surprised there are that many Hindus left in Pakistan! there is neither tolerance of diversity nor law & order in Pakistan. This is just another instance.

Its a bit more complicated then a simplistic Hindu Muslim situation. Most upper caste Hindus left in 1947, and the bulk of the Pakistani community is made up of Bheels, Kolhis and Meghwals, all of whom are Dalit in India. Many are bonded labourers, but so are Muslim groups like Bajeers, Suthars, Kumbhar etc. These Muslims are as much victims of kidnappings, torture, and bonded labour as the Hindus. The problem is with the antiquated feudal system where "upper caste" waderas (feudals) exploit the lower orders. And for your info, Hindu Rajputs like the Sodha are equally cruel to these Dalits.

A Hindu friend of a Muslim friend of mine was threatened by her Hindu parents that if she converts she'll face death. She's now outside of her home living with other girls, her brother is now looking to kill her. This happened in Karachi couple months ago. So yeah..

What happens in Pakistan, is Pakistan's business

There are tens of millions of Hindus in Burma, Sri Lanka, Bangla Desh, Nepal, Bali, South Africa, East Africa, Malaysia and the rest of the world.

India cannot and should not become the 'so called' protector of Hindus in other parts of the world.

the thing I don't understand is that first you convert the girl and then proceed to sell her into slavery? wtf! why bother? or do you get more sawaab by selling a Muslim girl into slavery than a non-Muslim one? or is the sawaab of a converting a kaafir to Islam supposed to exceed the sin of kidnapping someone and selling them into slavery?

lets not demagogue the issue. Muslim girls being kidnapped does not mean that non-Muslim girls dont get kidnapped. It doesnt even mean that there isnt an additional mindset in place, a prejudice against minorities, that can make it more likely for them to be kidnapped. also Hindus preventing their daughters from conversion has no bearing on the question of their abduction.

so lets cut the strawmen arguments out, if only to be decent people who dont try to take every issue and reduce it to a childish partisan argument, making light of things that impact the victims severely.

You are correct about Qurani teachings. Yes you can't force.

However

if you had any "first hand" experience of Mullahs in small towns/villages, you would have known that

Isalmists do commit forceable conversions.

And the Pakistani-Hindu leaders are not doing baqwaas /propaganda. They are really hurting, and yes indeed their sons and daughters are not safe.

So it is time we show them some heart of a REAL Muslim, who goes and gives them mercy regardless of their religion.

And if you can't come to Pakistan due to your visa/passport restrictions, just say a silent prayer for the safety of Hindu girls who just happened to live in Pakistan.

well i m from sindh and seen almost every corner of it and area which are quoted in the article naganarkar etc are on thar (desert) side near rajhistan and you would be surprised to know that has largest population of hindu community live there and caste system still prevails there.

i dont dispute a single thing except forced conversions in the article, as for kidnappings, bonded labour etc that is happening and ironically is limited to lower caste hindus and poor muslims in their both suffer due to harsh natural conditions and man made system as well. what prevails there is high caste rajputs and muslims.

now if we move to the settled rural or semi urban areas like shikarpur, sukkur, jacobabad, larkana there is exploitation as well but it never happens to an influential hindu or muslim family but poor.
girls abductions for forced conversions are almost nonexistant in most cases parents of girl lodge FIR of abduction even if it love affair as happens with muslim families , what threatens most to hindu community is not community related or their faith but its security threats they are easy targets for gangs of looters and kidnappers because mostly they are business minded highly educated community they react rarely, and again i would say it is happening to everyone there.

remember famouse business man satish ananad case (by the way he is uncle of juhi chawla and she is sindhi yes) he was kidnapped from karachi and recovered from bannu 1500 miles away and what not state did to get him released safely why because he was influential and we have 10s of kidnapping of hindus and muslims in sindh did state react for them that way ???...

for me most important thing that we can do for in rural areas for all and specially for hindu community is provide them sense of security that is only thing they need.

i can quote you an example: an ordinary rich hindu family who lives in karachi and shikarpur would ride in a 1.5-3 million rupees car in karachi and if same family go to shikarpur (their family home) for vacation they would ride in 2-4 lac rupees car and same is with the muslim families if they dont belong to a influential tribe/caste.
