Maybe my Urdu reading is bad, but I did not read MQM workers rather 'armed men' threathing the volunteers.
Maybe my Urdu is bad but one doesn't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out who they r referring to:

Re: 228 killed in Karachi
The ugly face of advertising spoke on June 23rd here in Karachi. It looks like the companies and their advertising agencies have got no ethics to follow on! I never saw a such gigantic adverstising boards in London as compared to the ones in Karachi - almost 10 times bigger than those in London!

I think they were trying to stop Edhi from telling the truth - as the CDGK and other in the government claim loss of only 70 lives!
Re: 228 killed in Karachi
^True
MQM continuing their Fascist activities, like always.
Re: 228 killed in Karachi
Sad, I bet none of the MQM thugs lost their lives... Between the MQM and the weather, I dont know whos worse.. Atleast the weather can claim neutrality.
Re: 228 killed in Karachi
Those billboards are an eyesore... They are really pretty damn hideous.
If anything, this will prompt the authorities to not allow these things to go up where ever the feel like it.

kiyon ke subhe inhe jante hain... and that leads you to MQM? It leads me to JI, ANP and other extremists who are known for kidnapping workers, officials and blowing up foreigners in Karachi.

Re: 228 killed in Karachi
**[Pakistan’s coastal areas brace for possible cyclone
KARACHI:**](http://www.pakistanlink.com/Headlines/June07/25/01.htm) Pakistan evacuated thousands of people from southern coastal areas on Monday ahead of a possible cyclone, two days after a storm killed at least 235 people in the port city of Karachi, officials said.
The meteorological department issued an alert saying that a tropical storm forming in the Arabian Sea 150 kilometres (90 miles) south of Karachi was likely to intensify into a cyclone in the next six to 12 hours.
The new storm was expected to bring strong winds with “heavy to very heavy rainfall” in Sindh province, of which Karachi is the capital, and neighbouring Baluchistan province, it said on its website.
Fishermen were advised to stay ashore until Thursday in some areas because of the likelihood of “extremely” rough seas. At least 10 fishermen have been missing since the weekend, officials said.
“It is likely to pass very close to Karachi and it can cause heavy rain. Even small rains cause destruction so naturally it can cause losses,” a Met official said.
Officials in Baluchistan said around 2,000 people had been evacuated to higher ground from areas along the Arabian Sea coast that were already inundated by the rain.
Karachi is still reeling from a deadly thunderstorm on Saturday, with parts of the sprawling port city of 12 million people still without electricity or drinking water.
Workers were clearing fallen trees and the wreckage of nearly 50 huge iron-advertising billboards that collapsed during the thunderstorms, causing several of the casualties.

Geo is reporting that cyclone is changing direction and there is no danger to Karachi. However, heavy rainfall is expected. Read more
Re: 228 killed in Karachi
I also want to take time out from grieve and want to condemn DR SHAHID MASOOD on his comments about the expected cyclone on his yesterday’s program on GEO (MAIREY MUTABIQ). 250+ people were dead in Karachi and DR SHAHID MASOOD was trying to dramatize his program by criticizing the govt becasue (as per DR SHAHID MASOOD) there is no cyclone expected in Arabian Sea and * “govt khuda k leyee logoon ko darana band ker dai. Ager wo unlogoon kee dad rasee nahee kersaktee tu kam az kam darana tu band ker dai. Dunya k kisee weather reporting agency nai cyclone kee itella nahee dee pata nahi sindh govt ko kahaan sai itella mil gaee”*
Thats called just for the sake of criticizm. I am sure he will not apologize on his wrong comments today even after realizing that there was a real threat from cyclone. BBC and many other agencies are reporting this with the real time images

Re: 228 killed in Karachi
Now Geo is saying that the cyclone is approaching coastal areas [1]](Geo News: Latest News Breaking, Live Videos, World, Entertainment, Royal). I spoke with folks at home, according to them there is no electricity and frequent warnings is being given to resident to stay inside. Evacuation is underway, coming 12 hours will be of high winds, heavy rains and cyclone.
Re: 228 killed in Karachi
^ Yeah I just talked to AMMI. She said that there was no power for 28 hours and then it came back for 3 hours and now gone again....they are bracing for another storm. Allah rehem karey.
Re: 228 killed in Karachi

Re: 228 killed in Karachi
My dad was out and about and got back just in the nick of time because as he was out while teh whole storms had started but he made it back before things got worse, thank god.
Re: 228 killed in Karachi

Inna lilllah wa inna allahe rajeoun Allah tumam mernay waloon ki magfarat karey and is government sey nijat delayh jis ki waja sey itnay log mer rahey haan
this is uncalled for, we are talking about a major tragedy and you have to keep politicizing it? for once can we just let petty grievances and sarcasm out?
Re: 228 killed in Karachi
So, what's going on there right now? Its monday. Is this storm still hanging around?
Re: 228 killed in Karachi
yup, until wednesday I think
Re: 228 killed in Karachi
Karachi authorities have said they are fully prepared now. What baffles me is that Karachi never had any preparedness- whatsoever. I wonder if these many people would have died in as densely populated Japan or the UK. Sad to find so many people died :(
