Re: 21st Islamic Unity Conference

great news ....
esp. for persians and arabs was recently watching a documentry on iran-iraq war and it was extremely tasteless the kind of propoganda done by both sides , but majority of the blame lies with saddam, he was a atheist baathist but he cleverly whipped up the sentiments of the sunni arabs as if this war was a catalysmic clash of shia persians vs sunnis an himself a latter day sa'd b abi waqqas[ra]
nothing can be further from the truth
1-sunni arabs of irans remained loyal to iran
2- shia arabs of iraq remained loyal to iraq
3- saddam killed sunni arabs/kurds as mercilessly as he killed shias
4-Iranian govt. under circumstances killed shias as political opponents as well and afterall their most hated enemy shah pahlavi was a shia too

Re: 21st Islamic Unity Conference

Islamic unity is not possible. It is not that unity is a bad idea. It is just that the very Islam has been used to create emotional outbursts for the last 1000 years.

Flag bearers of Islam cannot say prayer in the same mosque (or behind an Imam of a different muslak), then the unity remains a pipe dream at best.

In the context of Pakistan, the unity is even more difficult. The more "Muslim" you are in Pakistan, the more tightly bound you are with your own sect.

Moharram is a good test when 100s of Police officers are posted to prevent clashes between sunnis and shias.

If you read one sect's teachings, it would clearly say that all other sects are bunch of heretics, or worse simply "kaffir".

In that kind of environment, unity is very very hard to get, even if we really want to have it.

Re: 21st Islamic Unity Conference

^ I disagree most of the animosity is generated for political purposes, before zia's yrs and iranianrevolution , even the religious people of different sects had little more than fist fights during muharram.
This organized sectarian violence was sponsored by outside for gaining influence in pakistan
