Okay, so I thought this could be an informative thread for all those people planning their honeymoon. I am in the process of planning mine and my fiance and I have decided the destination Turkey ! Hope it’s a good choice..
Now few questions
How to adequately plan for a honeymoon
What’s a decent budget?
Good duration?
Any good websites out there that help planning?
It dosent have to be specific for Turkey, but just in general - for those whove planned theirs and all, how did you go about doing it?
**oh wow...congratulations. well, there was a thread very recently on this query. i haven't had a honeymoon yet so i really dunno what to say. i think a week wud be good and how much money? it all depends what u gonna do their in ur free time, what gifts u gonna shower on her, where u gonna stay, what and where u gonna eat etc.
Since I am not married I can be wrong but the duration is entirely up to you imo and will vary between couples etc. Your planning should be basically making sure that your hotel is within reach of nice eating places and good transport links.
Someone will better advice but I thought I'd give it a go :D
Turkey is amazing, so much history and sight seeing. I would suggest Istanbul. Egypt in amazing too, Alexandra, Cairo steer clear of Sharm-el-sheikh unless you want to visit mount Musa.
Decide where you want to go and how much money you have to spend, do you want a private villa or a hotel?
I would suggest checking all those holiday compare sites to get the best price, you could search for the flights and hotel together then search flights and hotels seperatly to see which is cheaper.
Decide if you want to go all-inclusive, half board, bed and breakfast or self catering. Personally I always go half board, I will eat breakfast at the hotel and then either lunch or dinner, gives you flexability to eat out without felling you have wasted money on food your not eating.
Do some more web searchs for travel insurance, make sure it covers you for any activities you might want to do (ski, snorkle, rock climb etc), make sure it covers you for any lost/stolen money and luggage, cancelled flights and decent health care. Make sure it has a low excess, you don't want to have to pay £500 before you can get medical treatment.
Do some web searchs and find reviews from people who have been to the same destination, you can find out how much it will cost to eat out, get taxis etc.
Decide on a max budget per day as spending money, make it realistic, you may see something really nice there and spend more then you imagined.
Do not carry large amounts of cash around, find out the ATM charges for withdrawing cash abroad from your bank. In the UK Nationwide bank does not charge if you have their current account.
Check out the exchange rate, I only exchange a small amount of cash to take with me because I always find the exchange rate is better in the country I am visiting.
Book a pick up from the airport to take you to the hotel/villa.
Maybe you can tell the hotel you are on your honeymoon and get a free room upgrade.
Remember to take things like bug repellent, anti-histamines, pain killers etc.
Thats all I can think of for now.
oh wow ! some really great points suggested. I guess it’s true duration and budget varies from couple to couple, but since at this stage your kind of inexperienced etc, how do you know if your getting ripped off or not. I found this website called http://www.travelatelier.com/ who apparently plan your iternary and all and places to stay and things to do depending on what you tell them.. ? are these things safe?
Hi, I went to a travel agent and and discussed options…it really depends on what you want? do you want total relaxation…shopping…activities etc…
anyway I went to The Maldives and it was great…this is if you want total relaxtion and no disturbance at all. We stayed on Chaaya Island Dhoneveli. It was about 20-25 min boat ride from the capital Male where the airport was. BUT it was pretty expensive. We choose the Water Villa to live in and it was great. It was all inclusive but you had to pay for any spa treatments and extra activities… It was soooo beautiful and amazing I would reccomned it to everyone but only go if your budget allows you..we paid for 2 people 4 grand and plus spending money but there was only 2 shops on the Island!!!
heres some pics:

Hey some gud info given by everyone. zainy where are you from? im from uk and have booked my honeymoon to dubai and maldives for 3 weeks. i searched loads of places, found some great deals online but as the costs were coming to over £5,000 i wanted to speak to someone face to face. remember its a buyers market now so dont settle for they price they offer you. my hubby-to-be and i will be staying all inclusive in 5 star hotels honeymoon suites in both places. The total cost they were charging us was almost £6,000 but we haggled them down to £5,000. this recession has been excellent for me cz iv gotten everything at really low prices. be sure to budget for any excursions u will want to go on as this will need to be paid separately. our travel agent (thomson) have arranged everything from here so we have paid for them already but some places may want u to pay for it over there.
hope this helps!
