2008 Pakistani Films

Is this going to be yet another dismal year for movies?

Mehreen Jabbar’s Ramchaand Pakistani is supposed to come through in 2008.

I’m guessing maybe Javed Sheikh will release his Khulay Asmaan Kay Neeche this year too?

…so, is that it?

Pitiful.

Re: 2008 Pakistani Films

I found these two entries for this year’s Karafilm Festival.

Re: 2008 Pakistani Films

The first one to be banned by censor board, and second by the CIA.

Re: 2008 Pakistani Films

wow!

Re: 2008 Pakistani Films

During the National Conference of SPIDERS held a PC Bhurbun....in first week of January-2008, it was adopted, discussed and deliberated and eventually resolved that the displaced SPIDERS in Pakistan who do not have homes/shelter in the Country... will be provided adequate accomodation at EVERNEW, SHAHNOOR, SHABAB studios at Lahore...and at the EASTERN studios at Karachi---on account of their permenant availabiliy....and WEBS already shaping up due to no hyper or even minor activity of film making.

The SPIDERS ASSOCIATION also thanked the INDIAN Film Industry and the scores of DV retails/outlets and above all the PEMRA (For Cable Operators) for ensuring that the Country is all the time and perpetually glued to watching scores and scores of adverts and INDIAN movies---10 out of 24 hours. The SPIDERS also felt that the "fashion" not to watch Paki-Films and thus leading to the disheartening of Producers should continue now that REEMA, SAIMA, SANA, RESHAM, MOAMMAR, SHAN...and the other shenanigans of Paki Film Industry..at Lahore....are getting active and attracting viewship and at some forums some discussions on threads about themself...on the tactful switch over to the mini-screen.

The Spider Doctor has also declared that cancer has spread on Paki-Film Industry and it is expected to finally call it a day in next three years at best!

he SPIDERS however appreciated GEO's efforts and made public announcement saying KHUDA K LEEAY acchee film banayen.......

Astala Vista..............

Re: 2008 Pakistani Films

Lollywood shouldn't even exist any more, I think PakLand should try harder focusing on tv shows, dramas, songs, etc... slutty girls with echoing voices and a home cam print for a movie doesn't work for me.

Re: 2008 Pakistani Films

2007 was not a dismal year for the film industry. Films like Khuda Kay Liye, Mohabbatan Sachchian, Jhoomer and others were released and did well at the box office.

Khuda Kay Liye was a brilliant film and the biggest hit of the year. In fact the film was a major talking point of the year.

In 2008 you have films like Ramchand Pakistani, Khullay Asmaan Kay Neechay, Humayun Saeed's first film as producer "Tere Liye, Syed Noor's "Pride of Honour, Kabhi Pyar Na Karna. Also a number of subject orientated quality Punjabi films will also be releasing. The likes of Shaan's Zill-e-Shah, Gulabo, Ijaz Bajwa's Chana Sachi Muchi.

One should also see Reema and Saqib Malik with there new projects. So its not all doom and gloom for the industry.

One thing for sure the so called "Revival of Cinema" which everyone has talked about since the release of Khuda Kay Liye has not materialied.

For good film making you need the right environment and infrastructure which unfortunately do not exist in Pakistan. The current politicall situation does not help things also.

The film industry has always faced so many external and internal problems. One thought that after the success of Khuda Kay Liye the new breed of film makers will come but unfortunately not even one film maker of repute has come forward. Where are all the music video film makers ?. Where are all the educated lot.?. Or do we just love critizing ourselves and feeling inferior. Are we really totally incapable of making quality films. We have a population of over 160 million and a few million overseas and we are still a mess.

Still though they are some people who are doing their best for films in Pakistan.

Rockistan you need to understand the importance of Cinema. If are going to make a mark on the international arena it has to be through films. Just see what Khuda Kay liye has done for Pakistan. Look at what China, Iran and India have achieved from Cinema. We have the talent without doubt but what is needed is a system which we lack.

Any how all the best to Lollywood for 2008.

Re: 2008 Pakistani Films

I agree with you BUT I think your sentence (for Pak-Film Industry) should end as the year 8002...not 2008 !

Re: 2008 Pakistani Films

Arjay, shame on you, you're in the entertainment industry. You of all people, have least reason to be such a pessimist about films, as you yourself are in a capacity to actually DO something about it.

Maybe this is the main reason why the cinema hasn't revived itself: People who have the talent to revive it, wont touch it with a 10 foot pole.

Keep laughing at the industry. The entire subconinent is laughing with you, and at you.

Re: 2008 Pakistani Films

Anything constructive from you would make us discuss. But blah blah, doesnt count much here. Its Pakistan not Pakland. Like Its Pakistani and not Paki!

I just hope to see more movies like KKL. This was an awesome production :k:

Re: 2008 Pakistani Films

its still in business i thought they filed bankruptcy after Saadi Cement :hmmm:

Re: 2008 Pakistani Films

well uncle until we have this class system dominating our education system i dont think lollywood should even be hoping for anything good to come out. :bummer:

abb jab in k target market he mazdoor hoon gain too :smack:

and then actresses like vina malik…i mean there is no profitable buziness is there then how come the mange to live in palaces :hoonh: (extracted infromation from “Aik din geo kay saath”)

Re: 2008 Pakistani Films

When i joined GS back in 2005 PCG was still the same … khari khari sunanay wali … straight from the heart … :salute:

always pleasure reading u PCG

Re: 2008 Pakistani Films

excuse me...if the movies did good business doesnt mean they are good as well.

first Pakistan is an Islamic state and the should come out of this kitsch ideology setter concept "Love". this phenomenon among young gals and guys is already surpassed morality due to the excessive availability of cell phones.

all we need is good concept and good executor!

so i dont call any one of those some remarkable achievement.
shoman production was extremely good, but i think still there was load that could be improved :) (yet a brilliant start)

ps. geo try to play politics...first they invite ppl like Dr Amir Liaqat to the premier and then issues fatway themselves against the film. i mean what kinda garbage strategy is that yuks (they played themselves with the name of God!)

Re: 2008 Pakistani Films

Zobia, you just CANNOT have films with the puritanical religous philosophy you espouse. Films WILL inevitably touch issues which are bound to make religous conservatives uneasy, so really, cinema needs a liberal environment to thrive in, which is only present in Karachi to an extent, maybe Islamabad. The kind of stuff which is called "liberal" in Lahore directly ties in with the you-know-what-area.

*** Khuda Ke Liye*** is a QUANTUM LEAP in the right direction. Pakistani film makers need to have enough guts to carve out their own genre unique from the Bollywood films, and that ssomething which Shaoib Mansoor quite successfully experimented with and his efforts need to be lauded. The ONLy way we'll be able to beat Bollywood is by making our own kind of films, not imitating them, as with the kind of budgets the Indians have, its highly unlikely that we'll ever beat them at their own game.

I mean, we have had enough of "the audience demands a belly-dancing-number and crass comedy"....and hopefully, all the upcoming productions of Jami, Saqib Malik, Mehreen Jabbar and * Marina Khan [the woman has talent] and Amina Khan [she's already roped in Iman Ali for her next and is now looking for a financier as per Iman's interview] will open up new avenues locally and internationally for Pakistani films....we have a HUGE diaspora and hence a MARKET for our films which is sadly being exploited by Bollywood at this point...

No one mentioned* Zibaahkhana* by the way. The film made on a shoestring budget of some lakhs managed to get houseful screenings in Islamabad and is still running there after a month.*

Re: 2008 Pakistani Films

^ Agreed. Keep in mind the current political atmosphere. Right now people will be roped in for movies with a political-religious topic, but at the same time, look at the security in the country. Last thing I would want is to get blown up in a cinema house by a suicide bomber, because I went to watch a film that the extremists wouldn't like.

So, am I gonna go to the theatre? CAll me chicken all you want, but my answer is "no". I'll get the DVD, thanks.
