**LAHORE - Presiding over a high level meeting held here to review progress of Sahiwal Coal Power project, Punjab Chief Minister said that initial design of this 1320MW project **has been prepared and an agreement reached with Pakistan Railways for transportation of coal from Karachi.
The Chief Minister told the meeting that overcoming energy crisis is top priority of the government since promotion of industry, trade and economic activity is not possible without it.
All out resources are being used for ending shortage of electricity.
Shahbaz Sharif said that work is continuing on generation of energy through coal, hydle, wind, solar, gas and other alternate sources.
He said that two coal power projects of 660MW each are being set up in Sahiwal and a total of 1320MW electricity will be generated from this project.
The Chief Minister said that the project will be implemented transparently by ensuring high quality and speed.
He said that this project of national importance will be completed in 2017.
He said that Punjab government will impart training of thermal engineering to** 200 Pakistani engineers in China from its own resources.**
He directed that a comprehensive programme with regard to training of Pakistani engineers in China should be evolved and presented within seven days.
Shahbaz Sharif said that setting up of thermal engineering department in Engineering University Lahore should also be considered.
He said that the decision of imparting training to Pakistani youth in thermal engineering discipline in China by a Chinese company is a welcome step.
The Chief Minister said that he will personally monitor the progress of Sahiwal coal power project and also visit the site soon.
Head of the project Song Taiji gave briefing to the meeting.Addl Chief Secretary Energy, Commissioner Sahiwal Division, Chairman PPDC, concerned authorities and officials of Chinese companies working on Sahiwal coal power project attended the meeting.
