The Indian selectors sprung a surprise, naming only a 20-man probables list for the four-match Test series in Australia. Announcing the line-up, SK Nair, secretary of the Indian board, said that the final squad of 16 would be named after India’s TVS Cup match against New Zealand at Hyderabad on Saturday.
The list of probables includes Sadagoppan Ramesh as the third opener, while Deep Dasgupta has been named as the second wicketkeeper. There is no place in the squad for Sanjay Bangar, though. Among the other fringe players who made the list were Murali Kartik, Irfan Pathan, Aavishkar Salvi and L Balaji.
The selectors also announced that Salvi would replace Ashish Nehra in the ODI squad for the Hyderabad match, and for the final, if India qualify. Nehra has been asked to play in Delhi’s Ranji Trophy match against Mumbai, which starts on November 15.
**
The probables
Sourav Ganguly (capt)
Akash Chopra
Virender Sehwag
Sachin Tendulkar
VVS Laxman
Rahul Dravid
Sadagoppan Ramesh
Hemang Badani
Yuvraj Singh
Deep Dasgupta (wk)
Parthiv Patel (wk)
Harbhajan Singh
Anil Kumble
Ajit Agarkar
Zaheer Khan
Ashish Nehra
Murali Kartik
Aavishkar Salvi
Irfan Pathan
L Balaji**
I see a problem in the wicket keeping department - both Parthiv Patel and Deep Dasgupta are not quite upto the mark behind the wickets.
If the selectors could not find any new talent, they should have recalled Nayan Mongia.
I am not too happy with Akash Chopra being in the list too. I guess he is in there to fill the North Zone quota.
Depdas Gupta was a horror behind the stumps and i cant belive stupid selectors recalled HIM other than anyone else, I agree they should have gone with Mongia, he was the most consistent wicket-keeper of the last decade.
Also, I would have liked to see ** Sanjay Bangar** and Tinu Yohannan in the list instead of Agarkar and Balaji for lack of better options.
Bangar is a fairly decent allrounder and I thought Tinu bowled well in NZ in the limited opportunites he was given. He should have been given an extended chance to prove himself.
check out Akash’s first-class and limited overs - Virendar Sehwag should have been dropped - he has been disappointing and pathetic - it’s about time India find new opening partner with Sachin Tendulkar - and i think Akash could be a good opener.
Irfan Pathan - well his performance got him place in the team though I ain’t got high hopes from him.

have you watched him play? I assume you have not - he looked a solid and confident player in a Test Series against New Zealand.

Talha Darling - Here are the two lines from the link you posted :-
"A very good player of spin, Chopra's deficiencies are mainly against the short ball."
I see that Ehsan has done a lot of lot of house cleaning.....
Back to the subject - Does India really have no fresh talent behind the wickets.... aur nahi to Samir Dighe ko hi rakh lete..... I never saw that Ajay Ratra guy... dunno how good he was...
but I do have a soft spot for Nayan Mongia...I guess he was unfairly dumped for match-fixing allegations that were never really proven...
Nayan Mongia is/was decent with the bat too.

O ho - give lad a chance - he still gotta open his quota in an ODI - who do you prefer to open with Sachin Tendulkar? VVS could be best choice but i don't reckon Virendar Sehwag should even be selected in the final 16-member squad.
Well I guess his great innig against England could last him only this long and after that I didn't see him perform in any other match. BTW the guy never impressed me.
^ He's a good guy he just got too much too soon, and now he's all keyed up. Worst thing that could happen to him is he gets his chance, goes out to bat at Lord's, wins the match and becomes the nations hearth-throb. Next thing you know you have these comms sayin on air how Kaif is captain material, like he's goin to take over next month! So this 21 yr old kid starts thinking, ' damn, one mistake and I'm done for'. He gets interviewed on TV and the stupid anchor asks him, 'Kaif, how do you feel about being the next captain of India?' and Kaif starts stuttering so badly he can't speak. Then they interview his mom, and she tells everyone how Honey loves bajre ki roti. That makes headlines next day.
Kaif did not do anything special in the recent past, but he should have been given an extended run (at the top of the order) to prove himself as a batsman. In any case, he is an asset to the team as a fielder. Having said that, the Patel kid who is there in the team because of the TINA(there's no alternative) factor is whose selection agonizes me most.
One interesting name is of Sadgopan Ramesh. This guy has a lazy elegance about him that most left handers tend to have....but he also has an affinity for balls outside the off-stump something which McGrath & Co. will exploit to the maximum and is also not the quickest between the wickets.
wese beside jokes isn’t it amazing that more Indians know Pakistani players than Pakistani ppl know Indian players. Isn’t it the fact? Why Pakistani players are so popular in India?
However I would like to mention, Gavaskar, Kirmani, Azhar and Tendi are the ones that every Pakistani knows.
