How does this happen?
How absent-minded do you have to be to let a 2 year old wander far enough away that she’s missing all night?
Maybe this is a pet-peeve of mine…maybe I’m over protective…I don’t know…just can’t understand how you don’t constantly have an eye on a 2 year old…
Ontario Provincial Police are searching through tall cornfields for a two-year-old girl who wandered from a farm in Norwich Township near Woodstock.
A helicopter and two canine units are being used in the large-scale sweep through the cornfields east of Norwich following the disappearance of Brooklyn Honderich just before 7 p.m. ET Sunday.
“We had searchers out all night, searching the corn, and all the property and all the areas of highest probability. Now we have our second wave of searchers, and they’ll probably go over going through the corn again,” said OPP Const. Larry Plummer in an interview with CBC News on Monday morning.
“The parents were here working on the farm, they have a dairy farm,” said Plummer. “They were working, and she was outside playing and they noticed she was missing.”
Plummer told CBC that the family owns a barn and cattle at the farm property, but lives somewhere else nearby.
Brooklyn Honderich is described as:
Wearing a blue-and-white-striped tank top, tan-coloured overalls and grey Capri pants.
Her light brown hair was in ponytails.
She’s three-foot-three.
Weighs 29 pounds.
Plummer said the OPP helicopter and canine units will return to search Monday morning. Searchers are equipped with a GPS, and they work in an organized grid pattern that is captured by a computer.
Police say a large number of volunteers have come to the scene to offer help, so police are asking homeowners along Caley and Baseline Roads to check their properties for the missing girl.
It takes only a second as a poster said above. Reminds me of how sometimes a parent is watching their child closely and is standing near their child…but is still unable to catch their child when he/she falls or trips/slips. Despite the parent’s vigilance, the accident took but a matter of seconds. The best of parents are still limited.
What I wonder is how many Muslim parents recite the 3 Quls/Aytul Kursi on their kids on a regular basis…esp when they’re outdoors …taking into consideration a parent’s limitations…in that absebtmindedness/diversion happens to the best of parents. We’ve been given a tool (surahs) for protection…besides our own common sense and attempts at vigilance…but I doubt many are regular with it.
If the parents are innocent and in no way have a deliberate hand in their child’s disappearance…I bet they’re already beating themselves up and are going thru mental hell right now. May the outcome be a good one.
Alhamdulilah! I can’t even imagine how the parents must have felt.
As others have said, it takes a second for something like this to happen .. I wouldn’t blame the parents or question their parenting. It could have happened to any of us. Thank god she was found! Stories like these don’t always have happy endings.
