Recently, I found myself applying for a few positions “just for fun” to see how much I can make in a different firm. Although I am very happy in my current position and the firm is great etc., but another company has offered me a part time position doing some auditing work. My dilemma is that I’m interested in the offer but I’m not so sure that its worth losing my weekends to more work. I mean my financial position is very strong at the moment but thinking like a businessman, I don’t mind the extra $$. Any guppies doing 2 or more jobs?? I want your advice on whether I should for it or not. I mean on the pro side theres the money, good networking opportunities, but on the con side I’m losing my free time and I have this ethical problem of “taking away” a job from someone who would truly need it.
Currently, I've two part-time jobs, one at MCI as a Customer Service and other as a Lab Assistant at University :D It keeps me busy, active and money keeps coming in the bank :)
RajputFury If you know what you want, Go for it man! But if you think you won't be able to have free time, then my advice would be, not to take second job.
PT yara, more power to you !! :k:
yeh the moneys nice…so how do you manage your time effectively?? Like going out with friends, keeping up with your interests..
I’m still thinking things over, as I have this weekend to figure out what I want to do, but thanks for the words of encouragement
Being offered 2 jobs in today's job market is quite an ego booster...Whether u should take it or not is entirely up to your lifestyle and where you live.
I'd do it if I were living in boonies in the Midwest.
I'd do it if I was after money...Note: There is a thin line between greed and achievement.
I'd do it if I didn't treasure my moments with my family...
Personally, I wouldn't trade my weekend (sleep) for anything in the world. I bust my arse 5 days a week and that is enough for me...there is never 'enough' when it comes to money..

Thanks for the response BoSS :)
Yeah it is pretty nice to be offered two jobs but on the flip side I would feel like I'm "talking away" a job from someone say a middle aged guy with a family to support. I mean im in my 20s trying to build a good foundation for my career, no family "responsibilities" etc. Haha I like the questions though!
I live in the Northeast-- Ct to be precise.
The money would be nice but not so crucial.
I actually do treasure moments with my family.
Hmm...I'm thinking of forgoing the opportunity, I mean it would be a nice thing on the side but it would simply take too much away from my life. Hope it's the right choice.
"On the weekends, I go out with my fiancee coz she is also a busy girl. About interests, I don't have any since I got engaged. ;)"
Hot dang yara! Congratss on the fiancee and I do know where your coming from my sweetie takes up a lot of my time. We work together, although since the engagement we've been hanging more often. Don't get on the leash dude!! Keep up your interests like don't join the ranks of yes-men. A gues nighht out would be a start :)
"Why don't you go out on a friendly date or how about taking a long drive?"
yeh..I actually did go out to the Litchfields Hills. I think being away from everything did help me come to conclusion: I simply cannot let my career overtake my life. Thanks so much for the suggestions!
Once I had two jobs for about 5-6 months. A full time one(my current job) and a part time one (my previous job). The part time one was on saturdays. At that time I did not mind working and the extra $$$ was quite unresistable. But after an year I was asked to pay the annual tax for the PT job(some stupid rule) here. What I found out is that, in the end I did not gain much $$$. It went all for tax payments.
Now I think differently. I want "quality" than quantity. I enjoy my weekends without work. Yes, there are still weekends when I have to do overtime when necessary, but then that's fine.
Speaking of interests, I prefer to listen music, movies and anything that makes me feel comfortable. I think its mostly depend on mood what I really want it to do to feel better. I’ve always enjoyed Long Drive!. Have you?
Add, GupShup in my Interests coz here you can meet combination of nuts and well-educated people.
Kool! Speaking of career and life, you should keep yourself fit and healthy. Do some exercise or watch Cheerleaders on Fridaynight Football.
Glad to know the Missus is not keeping you from “Me-time” watch cheerleaders?? Sure, i’ll still get the sweat but not the kind of workout i’m looking for
It's so interesting hearing all your views on the topic of careerpathing. I currently have a good solid job as a Human Resources Coordinator. It's great...not a dull moment in any given day! Plus I'm doing my MBA part-time which means 2 nights out of the week I'm booked w/classes. I relish my weekends, and do stuff with family and friends. Manage my time really well. Am super-motivated careerpathing-wise as I don't see myself in HR for longer than another year or so at most, after which time I plan to start my own hotel and banqueting business. Life's busy, life's great, loving every moment of it! Only thing "missing" so to speak is Mr. Right who'll make life full circle for me. Where can one find super-motivated single men?!
