KARACHI, Pakistan (AP) - A gas cylinder exploded Thursday at one of Pakistan’s main space technology research facilities on the outskirts of Karachi, killing two employees and wounding another, hospital sources said.
Karachi police confirmed the blast at the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission, but refused to give further details.
The two dead were identified as employees Moin-ud-Din Khan and Kashif Yaqub, said Pretam Jethrani, a doctor at the state-run Jinnah Hospital in Karachi, where the bodies were taken. Another man was wounded.
Khan’s brother, Pervez, told The Associated Press that authorities had informed relatives that the victims were handling the gas cylinder when it suddenly exploded.
Karachi is the capital of Pakistan’s southern Sindh province.
