2.5 year old not talking yet

Hi guys,

my 2 1/2 year old boy is not speaking full sentences yet. he says a very few simple words and he is a very active and happy child(mashallah). Now a bit worried, some are telling me he is an only child so i should give him some more time, but I wanted to know if I should take him to a speech pathologist?
any suggestion will be grateful
thanks

Re: 2.5 year old not talking yet

No need to worry. My daughter didn’t speak in full sentences until she was 3. But if you’re really concerned bring it up at his next doctors visit and they’ll refer you to a speech therapist (if needed).

We know these twins where girl started talking but boy did not till almost three years. Parents were concerned, but now he talks properly as a four and a half years old. I think the delay at least in his case was because of his social and strangers anxiety.

I say take your kid to play dates. Also enroll him in pre school if you could.

Read to him stories and speak very slowly … When you are thinking think out loud and use him to bounce ideas off … He will respond … Mother needs to talk the most with child so let her get on with it … If she is busy doing house work or career then whoever is taking care of baby needs to be heavily involved in talking and slowly so to child … No need to waste money on a therapist …

as long as he is able to speak 2-3 words sentences I think he’s fine. Read picture books with him it really helps and ask him about the pics.
