Re: 1st TEST : Sri Lanka -v- England @ Kandy
ALL OVER FOR ENG.
** Sri Lanka 188 & 442/8d
England 281 & 261/10 (93.6 ov)
** SL wins by 89 runs
it was a really very exciting test match. both teams had their share of luck and misfortunes [thanx to some crappy umpiring
]. eng did extremely well to bundle up SL for 188 in the first innings and had a decent start. but couldn’t capitalize on it and could only muster a mere 93 runs lead. for SL it was again sangakkara in the 2nd innings to score and notch up another century this year. currently he is averaging above 200. eng did well in the 2nd innings trying to chase down 350 set by SL but they couldn’t keep up the pressure on SL and got bowled out for 261, giving SL a well deserved 88 runs win.
ON A BRIGHTER NOTE : Musli’s record breaking/setting wkt in the match makes it even more memorable and special for all those who were fortunate enough to watch the gr8 bowler over taking the record and rewriting the record books.
ON A SAD NOTE : This happens to be JAYSURIYA’S last test match. no one was expecting him to retire this soon. but his poor form of late and above all, diminishing hunger for test cricket made him to call it the day.
Sanath Jayasuriya, as befits such a humble sort of chap, jogs off without much fanfair but is given a rousing ovation and pats on the back from his team-mates. A fine career comes to an end, and a decent way in which to send him off with a solid 88-run win.
