Re: 1st Test Match: Pakistan V West Indies, Lahore
Why did Lara chose to underbowl Collymore in yesterday's proceedings? By the end of Day 2, Collymore had figures of 16-4-34-0. Come Day 3, although he started and ended his 9-over spell brilliantly beating Yousuf's bat on a number of ocassions and maintaining a strict line outside the off-stump hardly giving any room, why was he neglected since then? Not even an over after lunch?
I certainly thought Collymore had more to offer, if given the chance. Nine overs was the least I was expecting.
May be due to three reasons:
1. Pakistan was very cautious against Collymore and on such a pitch, if you are set (like Yousaf) and then are cautious against a bowler and just block then chances of getting out are low.
Extra pace (85+ mph) for Taylor and Edward may have encouraged Lara to use them. Plus Pakistanis were playing their strokes against these twos so chance of getting wickets were there.
May be Collymore age may not allow Lara to use him for too long of spells, while other twos are in their early twenties.
Taylor was more successful and if I recall correctly, he has been included in squad specifically under Lara instructions. Lara was upset when Taylor was left out for few matches against India when india visited WI.
