Re: 1st Test: Australia v India at Melbourne - Dec 26-30, 2007
Brett Lee did it again for Australia. Time and again he has shown what a valuable player he is, in terms of his delivery and performance. I believe Brett Lee was one of the most influential bowlers who thoroughly troubled the batsmen. Hardly saw him bowl at less than 140K's, apart from a handful of slower ones. A great asset, this Brett Lee. Stuart Clarke have also been a key member in the side. One top-quality fast bowler complemented with potential match-winners.

This is a sad day for world cricket. It has just confirmed that there is absolutely no competition in the game at its highest level.
SL were good if you discard the fact that they took a total of, what, eight wickets. England before that were swept, SA were no challenge either.
I thought this team may at least stay competitive till the 4th and 5th days. But with this goes the notion that Australia can be defeated at home.
It really is a sad day for cricket. And this from a Pak supporter.
pathetic performance from India with the bat
this test looks like an australian win already but i wouldn't say India cant compete just yet, hopefully we can see more application in the 2nd innings and the 3 remaining tests
the thing thats bothers me is that to include yuvi in the team, the batting order is changed significantly, hope its the right decision...

In cricket world there is Australia and then there is the rest of them. Aus is way ahead of anyone. Complete domination. Look what they have done to the strength of India i.e. their batting. It is a formidable batting line up but they just blew it away. Hopefully they can reorganise and put up a better performance in the second innings.

Yes India should have done better with the bat but very few teams in recent memory have had Australia 9 wickets down on the first day of a home test series! It is just so bl**dy hard hard to beat Australia in a test series in Australia. Even when the Aussies were not this dominant back in the 70s and 80s, none of the major teams apart from the mighty WI managed to beat them consistently (England beat them 2-1 in 1985-6 but that's it) in their own backyard.

Watching the manner in which Harbhajan Singh was run-out by Brad Hogg speaks volumes of the differences between a thorough professional side and, well, rest of the world. Danish Kaneria, for instance, would have slept half-way through it. We missed so many run-outs because of the absence of mind by this man at the bowling crease. Expecting fielders to aim a direct throw at the stumps from close proximity is hardly imaginable.
