Re: 1st Quarter-Final: Pakistan v West Indies at Mirpur, Wed March 23
It was so interesting when Imran Khan told Hamid Mir to write down that if Pak plays with 3 spinners, they are gonna win. As always, he's sooo true!!
^Pakistan played 2 specialist spinners BTW.
Thats right. Pakistan played with 2 specialist spinners while Imran asked for three specialist spinners. As always Geo is just overplaying the statement.
Re: 1st Quarter-Final: Pakistan v West Indies at Mirpur, Wed March 23
Dude, Pak has utilized Hafeez as a specialist one by opening the match with him. And he has delivered the same way. I dont see anything wrong in that.

Either its 1 or 3, not 2 ![]()
Re: 1st Quarter-Final: Pakistan v West Indies at Mirpur, Wed March 23
Ian Botham:** Pakistan can win the world cup** :insh:
Team Unity and Fielding standouts for him
says Pakistan & South Africa better than both India and Australia
Re: 1st Quarter-Final: Pakistan v West Indies at Mirpur, Wed March 23
you know, after seeing the kind of 'spirit' Pak team and apparently whole of Pakistan has gotten into, I am getting worried ...not because of any specific individual great talent but momentum means a lot more in these games. Leads to big crucial plays (such as holding an impossible catch, sixing an impossible ball etc happen out of spirit and momentum, and not by talent).
I am now quite worried that Pakistan may end up winning this darned tournament because I have not anything close to this spirit in any other team/game.
Hopefully I am wrong and been unduly influenced by what I see in GS
Re: 1st Quarter-Final: Pakistan v West Indies at Mirpur, Wed March 23
^ Theoretically, Botham is right :)
But remember that all of Pakistan's wins have come due to their bowlers. However, that will not be enough against teams that are capable of scoring 300+ runs against the best bowlers in the world. Pakistan batting needs to be able to chase high scores if they are to win the WC.

these maybe better than the link I gave you earlier…

^ but I have seen these teams' (India, RSA and SLA) batting crumble under pressure as well. So it is not a given that they will score 300 +/- against Pakistan.
Momentum and confidence are two big factors in sport but it (esp. in limited overs cricket) essentially comes down to how you play and take pressure on the day
Re: 1st Quarter-Final: Pakistan v West Indies at Mirpur, Wed March 23
But for that team has to carry the momentum, carry out practice sessions as they have been doing for batting/bowling as well as fielding, they will have to keep the fielding mark up and higher to make a difference.

Hopefully it doesn't come to that because that's a real problem for us. We had one total of 301 to chase against NZ and we blew it. I'm not confident of chasing anything over 220.

True, however my point was different :) If these teams do not crumble and they are able to score 300+, is Pakistan batting capable of overhauling it ? Based on what I have seen so far, I have my doubts.
And lets not forget that Pak bowling could also fall apart, as shown by the Kiwis.

Geo is getting annoying by every second. wtf is aman ka chaka laga? why cant u hit aman ka choka or aman k two runs. what does cricket have to do with aman anyways.

I couldnt beleive it. I was in a meeting at ASDA (Wal mart) and the whole place erupted as Pakistan won, and that was English people not Pakistanis. We danced with them for a minute or so.

Bring on Aus for the semis. ![]()
What a performance, What a licking to WIndies and some here were adamant that Pak will not get to the semis.

ofcourse anything is still possible - you can have a bad day with ball or bat or both (as with Windies today) but Pakistan definitely one of the serious contenders to win
And I think the team is playing with more unity and purpose since the NZ game

Btw, you did allow NZ to get to the semis :D

one team, how many teams gave you the close run and one beat you. Very lucky not to lose against England.
