Whats EST? 10:25pm ?

re: 1st ODI Pakistan vs Australia @ Brisbane, Jan 22, 2010

^ Yep.

Younis is a must. It's clear our middle order can't handle pressure. We need someone who can at least stay at the wicket for 10+ overs.

For ODIs Shoaib Malik can do that job.

I would be more comfortable with Salman Butt opening than any other new batsman going against Aussie attack. Salman Butt has been playing long enough in these conditions and he can provide us somewhat stability in the opening partnership.

Umer gul clearly struggled throughout the series. I doubt he can be effecitive in ODI. I would replace him with Rana Naved who can also bat. There you go, our batting ends at 9 :D

  1. Salman Butt
  2. Kamran Akmal
  3. Younis Khan
  4. Muhammed Yousuf
  5. Umer Akmal
  6. Shoaib Malik
  7. Shahid Afridi
  8. Rana Naveed
  9. Muahmmed Amir 10.Muhammed Asif 11.Saeed Ajmal

Actually you need more than one batsman to stop the collapse. With Younis, Yousuf and Shoaib Malik, we should be solid in middle order.

Butt and Rana. :smack: Gayee bhains panee mein.

Name...............Matches.......Runs.........Average........SR..........Hundreds

Yousuf..............278...............9543.........42.79.............75.28.....15
Younis.............197..............5698........33.12............76.03......6
Shoaib Malik.....187...............5075.........34.76.............79.25.......7
Shahid Afridi.....288...............5830.........23.13...........110.85.......4
Salman Butt........71...............2543.........37.95.............76.13.......8
Umar Akmal........10..................311.........44.42.............92.01......1
Kamran Akmal...111...............2220.........26.74.............85.22......5

GA, I have always felt that Younis was not a very gifted ODI player. He was above average (at time below average) but a very hard working player. Off late he has clearly been struggling in the limited over format of the game not only T20 but also ODI.

I am not sure how closely you have seen his performance in ODIs in 2009 but he was struggling to cross double figures and even when he was crossing double figures he was wasting so many balls that it was putting unneccesary pressure on rest of the batsmen.

His stats were not really too impressive for 2009 which suggest that he needs to decide soon on his future as an ODI player.

2009: 19 games, 420 runs, 22 average, 2 meaningless half centuries against Sri Lanka when they have already won the ODI series against us.

I sincerely hope that I am wrong in my analysis of YK and of what I have seen in 2009 and hope he makes a strong comeback and give much needed support to our middle order. If not then in my view he needs to focus primarily on Test matches for the remaining years of his career.

re: 1st ODI Pakistan vs Australia @ Brisbane, Jan 22, 2010

Only if Younis Khan is ready to take gloves from Kamran Akmal then his place in ODI squad would make sense

In presence of his strong parchi and poor technique, yes

Against teams like Australia, YK is the reason Pakistani batsmen come under pressure... he have capability to hang around for a while but he cannot rotate strike during that period and then getting out cheaply...

re: 1st ODI Pakistan vs Australia @ Brisbane, Jan 22, 2010

Its pretty clear form Yousuf's statements that Younus will play. This would be my playing eleven.

Khalid Latif
Kamran Akmal
Younus Khan
Mohammad Yousuf
Umer Akmal
Shahid Afridi
Fawad Alam
Rana Naveed
Umer Gul
Mohammad Aamer
Saeed Ajmal

and he will not do any worst than Kamran ...at least not with Akmal's current form although I'll still pick Akmal due to his batting in ODI ..even with his current form with gloves

re: 1st ODI Pakistan vs Australia @ Brisbane, Jan 22, 2010

Imran Farhat or Salman Butt should have been replaced by Imran Nazir. Imran Nazir against Aussies would be great contest.

The only issue being Kamran himself doesn't want to play as specialist batsman

How can you drop Asif in favour of Rana?

Uncle Rana cost us SF against NZ in CT last year with his wayward bowling

re: 1st ODI Pakistan vs Australia @ Brisbane, Jan 22, 2010

I think its a tough choice for the playing 11. I would be tempted to risk going in with the first 6 below, and then drop Fawad Alam for Umar Gul. And the rest of the bowling attack picks itself. Rana is familiar with these Aussie conditions and gets the ball to swing. This way you will get 6 bowlers who can bowl 10 overs. 2 all rounders in Afridi & Rana.

  1. Salman Butt
  2. Kamran Akmal
  3. Younus Khan
  4. Mohammad Yousuf
  5. Umer Akmal
  6. Shahid Afridi
  7. Fawad Alam/Umar Gul
  8. Rana Naveed
  9. Mohammad Aamer
  10. Saeed Ajmal
  11. Mohammad Asif

re: 1st ODI Pakistan vs Australia @ Brisbane, Jan 22, 2010

^^ HomID, your team makes the most sense so far. However, if Gul plays then we'd have 6 bowlers. We need to strengthen our batting more than the bowling.

re: 1st ODI Pakistan vs Australia @ Brisbane, Jan 22, 2010

I have a feeling that they will drop Gul in favor or Rana due to the fact hat RAna sahab can swing bat a bit too ...

Don't believe others, Match will start at 14:00 GMT on 30th of February...
