**Yasir’s sparkling century helps Pakistan thrash Australia by 8 wickets
Yasir Hameed hammered an unbeaten scintillating century as Pakistan A thrashed Australia A by eight wickets in their first one-day game to take 1-0 lead in a three-match series at the Gaddafi Stadium here on Wednesday. The second one-day match will be played on September 7 (tomorrow) in Sheikhupura.
In reply to the visiting team’s 232-7, Test discard Yasir (108) and captain Faisal Iqbal (76 not out) added 165 runs for the third wicket and helped their team reach home with nine overs still remaining. Yasir hit 15 fours off 111 balls while Faisal struck six fours and two sixes off 96 balls. Yasir came at the crease when Pakistan lost their two wickets at 68: openers Khalid Latif (32) and Taufiq Umar (9) fell prey to pace bowler Doug Bollinger.
Earlier, Australia won the toss and posted a respectable total because of Phil Jacques (46), James Hopes (55 not out) and captain Adam Voges (44). Taufiq Umar claimed took two wickets for 33 runs in 6 overs while three of the Australian batsmen were run out. A generous supply of 23 extras also helped the total as Najaf Shah, the tall left-arm pacer, went wicketless while Tahir Khan and Mohammad Irshad grabbed a wicket each.
Re: 1st ODI: Pakistan A vs Australia A , Lahore, Sep 5, 2007
Good performance by Yasir. I hope he becomes a regular in the Test team now.
Pakistan played a lot of Test players, while Aussie team is mostly unknown. Hopefully Gillespie and McGill will play in the next match, if they haven't already changed their plans after the Rawalpindi blasts.
