Re: 1st ODI Pak vs Eng 30th aug @ Cardiff
I think Pakistan is smart enough to make one or get tips from Australia by making them. If engineers in Pakistan can make air planes then how is it impossible to make indoor cricket stadiums? Atleast they should attempt and might take their own time to build in like 2-3 years.
Re: 1st ODI Pak vs Eng 30th aug @ Cardiff
^ its not a matter of smartness... its a matter of resources... the Telstra stadium in Australia was built at a cost AUS $690M... where will Pakistan get that kind of investment?
Re: 1st ODI Pak vs Eng 30th aug @ Cardiff
Why that much? If it is true then it is better to donate all of that money to poor. Since our country is poor, we should distribute all money to poor people instead of making huge stadiums, useless spend of money then. Period! I apologize and I did not know it would cost that around.
Re: 1st ODI Pak vs Eng 30th aug @ Cardiff
When its raining...why not play with a **plastified **ball... :)
Re: 1st ODI Pak vs Eng 30th aug @ Cardiff
Because you don’t just put a plastic ceiling over the stadium and say its done. Thats grossly underestimating the amount of engineering genius that goes into building such stadiums. LOL, don’t you think if it was that easy and cheap someone would have done it already?
BTW, Umar Talib, no way was Telstra Dome contructed at about $690 million. I wanted to confirm my suspicions and its true. Check this out:
There is a slighlty cheaper alternative, that could possibly be built for under $100 million. But even that would be pretty expensive for government of Pakistan: Air-supported structure - Wikipedia
Re: 1st ODI Pak vs Eng 30th aug @ Cardiff
No, the fact is I was not expecting it would cost that much to produce ceiling. People can not afford it, but country should be able to afford it but waste of money if it costs around that. Then leave it.
If it costs that much then I have an idea. What they should do is “Dig through the ground and build a stadium underground and thus it would not be hard to make ceiling at the top. It would be considered as underground stadium” I am kidding and first Pakistan should produce subways, as it is in India.
Re: 1st ODI Pak vs Eng 30th aug @ Cardiff
I was quoting the cost of the stadium… not just the dome.
In terms of alternatives, there’s also the crenosphere style dome which costs significantly lesser but still out of reach for a country like Pakistan.
Re: 1st ODI Pak vs Eng 30th aug @ Cardiff
Actually Telstra Dome and Telstra Stadium are two completely different facilities. Telstra Stadium was constructed for $690 million (AUD) whereas Telstra Dome was built for $250 AUD (that includes the entire stadium, including the roof). If I'm not mistaken, cricket events take place at Telstra Dome, not Telstra Stadium.
Re: 1st ODI Pak vs Eng 30th aug @ Cardiff
First Pakistan was ‘not that poor’ then it became ‘poor’. What kind of grass these teenagers are eating these days ![]()
Re: 1st ODI Pak vs Eng 30th aug @ Cardiff
Pakistan seems to be picking up and getting over that Ball temparing scandal
Good for the game :k:
The 1st one day was a dissappointment - as Pakistan was in such a good position
Anyway - Lets keep it up in the matches to come :k:
Re: 1st ODI Pak vs Eng 30th aug @ Cardiff
aah - that explains it! thanks.
Re: 1st ODI Pak vs Eng 30th aug @ Cardiff
Ehsan - how was your time in Cardiff apart from the rain spoling the day? Did you manage to find parking near the Sophia Gardens or Cathederal Road (main road leading to the ground)?
By the way - did you see or come across a Pakistani supporter who has hair style done with star and moon (similar to the Pakistani flag). He is the same guy who ran on the field at Haadingly when Aqib Javed had a problem with the David Constant - remember?
Re: 1st ODI Pak vs Eng 30th aug @ Cardiff
^ Cardiff was good apart from the result. I enjoyed the day. Ironically if it had been a day match it would have completed because there was no rain in the morning. Lucky to get parking near the ground on cathedral road. My brother had to park about 2 miles away in the city centre. As soon as we got to the ground there was a demonstration going on against Hair. All the TV cameras were covering it. It was about 50 odd people shouting slogans against Hair and handing out black ribbons. Also that decorated bus was there. There was a heavy police presence at the ground. First time I have seen police in such heavy numbers and I have been to hundreds of matches. It is a small ground and one which Afridi would have loved it. Inside the ground there was good natured banter between the two sets of supporters regarding who else but hair. Overall the atmosphere was good. The rain came as Pakistan were in a strong position and we would have won inside of 25 overs. Shame really, but apart from that a great day out. Got home by midnight.
Re: 1st ODI Pak vs Eng 30th aug @ Cardiff
Cardiff is a lovely city - full of students and plenty from Pakistan. I really miss the place in some ways.
