Re: 1st ODI India vs Australia, Saturday 29th September

Dravid in at No.5!!?????

I would go;

Sachin
Ganguly
Dravid
Yuvi
Uthappa- better striker than gambhir
Dhoni
Pathan
Sreesanth/chawla - depending on pitch- most likely will have a bit of grass
Harbhajan
Zaheer
Rp Singh

12th: Gambhir

Re: 1st ODI India vs Australia, Saturday 29th September

^only one spinner is required. Chawla played well in England and he should be persisted. 3 left hand seamer's would be too much. I would play Sreesanth in place of RP just for the verity sake.

Re: 1st ODI India vs Australia, Saturday 29th September

*Ponting vs Sreesanth: Who’s the real champion? *

[QUOTE]
Bangalore: Barely two days before they square up for a high-profile ODI series, a war of words has broken out between India and Australia, with both teams today proclaiming themselves as the rightful world champions.

Australian skipper Ricky Ponting sparked off the debate saying that his men were the world champions, having conquered both the Test and ODI titles. "India is the World Twenty20 champions. We are the one-day and Test champions and as I see it we have a 50-over series coming up. So that says it all," Ponting asserted.

The Indian camp was quick to react with flamboyant pacer S Sreesanth brushing aside Ponting's remarks with disdain. "He can say whatever he wants to but the fact is that we are world champions. They can never change that. Trust me it is not going to be easy for them here," he said.

Ponting said though Mahendra Singh Dhoni's men deserved all the accolades for their triumph, it has also put them under tremendous pressure in the series."...if there is anything, pressure will probably come back on India," he said, adding, there would be lot of expectations from the Indian team after the Twenty20 triumph.

I had gone blank: Sreesanth on the Misbah catch

"There is, no doubt, that some of the players will be under pressure," he said.

The Aussie skipper said India's Twenty20 win was now a thing of past. "They (India) played great cricket. They deserved to come back as champions. But that's finished now. We got to look forward to the series," he said.

Reacting to it, Sreesanth said, "They say it is past but it is something they can never change."

wow what a start to the ODI series!

Re: 1st ODI India vs Australia, Saturday 29th September

Its intresting...when we have three right hand bowler then we dont talk to lack of variety. But if we have 3 left armer then issue comes.I think our best 3 seamers should play and SreeSanth is not one of them.

Re: 1st ODI India vs Australia, Saturday 29th September

I agree with Ponting

Australia is world champions

Re: 1st ODI India vs Australia, Saturday 29th September

Which world are you in...Dravid has been playing at #5 for long time.
Also..no way India is playing 4 seamers...
Agreed..There is a tossup between Gambhir and Uthappa but on current for Gambhir will get the nod. He was out best batsman in Twenty20.

Re: 1st ODI India vs Australia, Saturday 29th September

Its heating up there in India..This part was funny…

*In contrast, Queenslander Andrew Symonds was never one for niceties. He does not understand the notion of seething quietly. He reckons the Indians have carried on and should have showed some humility. *
*Watching the celebrations in Mumbai this week has awoken something ugly in him and he wants to bring these blokes down. *
*Symonds is renowned for catching and killing wild boars, using only his hands and a hunting knife. *
He says it is like watching somebody steal one of your toys. The last team that stole the Australians’ toys was England’s Test side in 2005. Most of them are still in therapy.

Re: 1st ODI India vs Australia, Saturday 29th September

I dont know why a guy who may not even be in playing XI is blabbering so much. Is he being used by Indian mgmt to do the trash talk. Look at it...one side it is ponting trash talking and then he gets replies from Sreesanth.

Re: 1st ODI India vs Australia, Saturday 29th September

in indian pitches where swing is scarce, its always better to go for veriety than the credentials of fast bowlers. They are not going to get anything out of it. Besides Australia is opening with two left handers and will negate any swings the lefties produce.

Re: 1st ODI India vs Australia, Saturday 29th September

hmmmm (me being of Pakistani origin could care less or none for that matter) … lekin kuch logo’n ko bohot mirchai’n lag rahi hai’n :hehe:

I mean it’s not every day that u as an Aussie r beaten by Zim, Pak, and then India … let’s c what beckons the Dawn

Re: 1st ODI India vs Australia, Saturday 29th September

No he hasn't. He only started batting at No.5 after he was 'pushed' down there by nazi Chappel.
Dravid is far more superior at number 3, and it suits his natural style of building an innings, rather than slogging at the end overs
I mean have a look at his stats at NO.3 how can you go wrong?

Innings: 99

Runs:3735
Average: 40.16
Not Outs: 6

Highest: 153

Hundreds: 7

Fifties: 25

Uthappa has just proved he is damn good at slogging. Therefore he is the perfect bat for No.5 when acceleration is required.

Gambhir may be in form, but he still hasn't rectified his flaw.
He shuffles across far too much and against the aussies more often then not they will get him LBW or bowled.

On a side note Rohit sharma is to replace Chawla, this should make selection easier.

Re: 1st ODI India vs Australia, Saturday 29th September

*saara majaa kharaab kar diyaa...*We should have been given a few more weeks to bask in glory of the T20 WC victory.

Nevertheless, I hope we give Aussies some competition. With the old guard back, lets wish Indian team does not revert to familiar territory.

Re: 1st ODI India vs Australia, Saturday 29th September

^ competition!!?? i hope india thrashes them 7-0 whitewash!

Re: 1st ODI India vs Australia, Saturday 29th September

It will be closely contested series. One of them will win 4-3
