1st Birthday Party - Menu and Decor

So my little bubba turned the big 1 on the 6th of this month (yayyyy Deeno bear)…and I am planning a belated birthday party for him. It will be celebrated late so family can make it.

Here is my menu and some ideas I am tossing around:

I saw the local library has a small room for residents to rent out - I am not expecting more than 50 people if that many since we are new in this town.
@khattichic…do you know of any small venues around us that would be appropriate for a 1st birthday?

The decor…

I am debating between a color scheme of blue and silver or teal and black. There will be balloons everywhere…so imagine an explosion of balloons and streamers.

The menu…

I am not doing desi food since its a daytime, casual affair and I don’t have my army of helping hands.. I want less fussy finger food. The menu so far…please suggest if you can think of anything:

Artisan Cheese Platter with Seasonal Fruit
Fruit Kebabs
Crab Salad on Endive
Brie and Carmelized Onion Quesadillas
Mini Crab Cakes with Garlic Chive Sauce
Grilled Veggie Wraps
Red Potato Salad

Dessert:
Cake and something else I guess? But what else? A sweet table? I don’t know…I feel like sweet tables are done to death and sooooo overwhelming with the sugar…never been a huge fan of them. Unless I mix it up with sweet stuff and fruit?

I am going to wear something nice…most probably shalwar kameez or I may go get a nice dress. But most probably it’ll be shalwar kameez.

What say guys?

Re: 1st Birthday Party - Menu and Decor

The Library rooms will be your best bet, it’s the easiest and cheapest. Only other options really are either a) very pricey or b) the usual chuck e cheese, gymboree etc.

I can look into the clubhouse for my aunt’s subdivision for you, but it usually books up months in advance since all the desis use it lol.

Let me know whatever you need me to do

Re: 1st Birthday Party - Menu and Decor

^ Thanks! I think the library rooms are probably the best bet too.

The one by me...Carrollton one on Josey is the one I saw. Funny thing is, I wanted to see it so walked right in to the middle of some desi family practicing dances for a wedding I think? There was bhangra music and people everywhere...but they were all speaking Gujrati.

Anyway, I think its a good option.

What about my menu? I think its too grown up LOL.

Re: 1st Birthday Party - Menu and Decor

LOL!! I can totally picture that scenario lol!!!

I think your menu is fine, just add a pasta since it's kid friendly...and it will mostly be adults anyway right? Or is the whole tabbar from Chi-Town coming?!?! All the sisters and nieces/nephews?!?!

Re: 1st Birthday Party - Menu and Decor

Errryone is coming...which is the only reason its being pushed out. Because everyone wants to be here. Inshallah.

I think a more kid friendly menu is good...

Should there be some sort of entertainment for the kids? I just thought about that.

Re: 1st Birthday Party - Menu and Decor

I'll send you info for the entertainer/clown guy a couple of my friends used recently for their kiddos first bday parties...he was good for all ages

Re: 1st Birthday Party - Menu and Decor

Yes! That would help!!!!

Re: 1st Birthday Party - Menu and Decor

maybe you can change one crab dish and replace with some chicken :D

ooey gooey cheesy pasta and pizza is always a winner with the kids =)

fruit kebabs are listed under menu.. you want fruit again for dessert? hmm, how about some chocolate fondue to go along?

happy birthday lil bubba =D

Re: 1st Birthday Party - Menu and Decor

I just realized there are two crab dishes...lol

Re: 1st Birthday Party - Menu and Decor

Ladies, another question I have is that my timings for the party are 12pm-4pm.

Is lunch a better menu or would brunch also be an option?

I have more fun with brunch items but what is more appropriate?

Silver and blue, Lunch option

Re: 1st Birthday Party - Menu and Decor

Lunch, paired with early appetizers.

Re: 1st Birthday Party - Menu and Decor

I would consider brunch too

Re: 1st Birthday Party - Menu and Decor

For entertainment you can also rent a bouncy castle.. of course depends upon what age kids will be attending. Or get a balloon guy who twists balloons into various shapes. Kids at my LO's party loved getting animal shaped balloons.

Happy birthday to the budday boy!

Re: 1st Birthday Party - Menu and Decor

Goody bag?

Re: 1st Birthday Party - Menu and Decor

Goody Bags will be coloring books and crayons!

Re: 1st Birthday Party - Menu and Decor

^^ glad, there is no candy.

Re: 1st Birthday Party - Menu and Decor

Oh...I learned my lesson on that. Do not feed kids candy or sugar at a party.

You will be sorry.

Re: 1st Birthday Party - Menu and Decor

so, no birthday cake? bummer...
