I have a question…does any one know why 1999 world cup was held only after 3 years? it was meant to be held after 4 years because the previous world cup was held in Pakistan and India in 1996.
i wanted to know the answer for a long time but couldn’t get it any one knows why it was held after 3 years?
It may be one of the reason Abysmal mentioned. What I think is its only because of the weather conditions in the different parts of the world, first three Cups (75,79, and 83) were held during the month of June in England and when 4th Cup (87) came to Sub Continent it is really impossible to play any cricket during the month of June so they pushed it to October and November then in 1992 when Cup went to Southern Hemisphere they play cricket during their Summer so it was held during February/March almost after 5 years (from 87 to 92, actually they should have played it in 1991, if you count from 75,79,83,87...) So instead of 1995 they played in 1996 and when in 1999 Cup retured to England it was held in May/June 1999.
That Olympics argument is interesting (and probably not true). Olympics were also held in '96 and '92. Did they impact cricket world cup to any significant level? I don't think so. I think the real argument is the cricket season in different parts of the world as Wiseguy explained.
