1990's World X1

Select the best X1 in test cricket for the decade 1990-2000, players eligible must have played the majority of there career in this era-thus guys like Gooch are excluded, as are guys like Gilchrist-who will play most his career from 2000-2010.

Justify your selections-thats the only criteria.

Assume players in their best element.

  1. Saeed Anwar-for me the best opener of the decade. Brilliant in all conditions against all attacks and explosive at the start of an innings.

  2. Alec Stewart-fine opening bat, and very good keeper. Allows a deeper batting line-up or an additional bowler. Beats Gilly on the technicality in the specifications. Awesome in his own right.

  3. Brian Lara-self explanatory. The biggest match winner of the era. masterful, one of the alltime greats.

  4. Tendulkar-genius. Masterful player. Consistant and technically sound beyond belief.

  5. S.Waugh-show me a tougher batsmen in his era, indeed any. A warrior, great skipper and gutsy. Will allow the others to play naturally around his stability.

  6. Azharuddin. A fine player of pace and spin, although this place could easily go to Inzi (better against pace) or Dravid, or DeSilva or Athers (well he’d open with Stewart at 6), or MW or a million others. Azgar is entertaining-and thus gets the nod.

  7. Wasim Akram-the greatest LA bowler of alltime. Amongst the alltime legends. Best bowler of his era, most complete ever. Can do anything. Wizard-no praise is too high-can also bat.

  8. Ambrose. Just awesome. Had masterful control and vicious speed when younger.

  9. Waqar Younis-simply the best strike bowler ever. Can be expensive, but argue against a S/R of 42, and I’ll leave this forum. Takes wickets, better then anyone at that. His S/R is Bradman-esque. Also has the reverse swing -paired with Akram-unbeatable.

  10. Allan Donald. Fine bowler of express pace and great S/R. Takes the new ball with Waqar-if only for his pace.

  11. SK Warne. Best spinner ever, and gives the skipper full variety in bowling options, although with such pace if needed he could be dropped in favour of a batsmen.

I like that side, it would give ANY side from nay era a run for its money. Cant believe I left out Walsh-but such is the competition for bowling spots, McGrath and Murali can comfort themselves with the knowledge that they werent far away from selection.

Another one!

Mine ur simple and obvious

1.) Mark Waugh - One of the best openers ever grace to one day cricket, he was simply awesome, and one of the greatest disciplined batsman ever, I would pick him anyday for a match winning team. Dissapointed that he is not part of the current Aussie team but they have found a reasonable replacement for him in Hayden.

2.) Saeed Anwar - Probably the best thing batting wise ever happend to Pakistani cricket. He is one of the best, if it wasn't for the injuries he has suffered in the past he would have gone way over 10,000 runs in one day cricket. Great to watch.

3.) Sachin Tendulkur - He is an automatic choice for any of All Star teams, he is great to watch, simply awesome, best thing ever happend to the country of India. Not a matchwinning player like Waugh or Anwar but definately a better batsman of the 3.

4.) Brian Lara - A real match winner, pulled Windes out of so many situations than any batsman could have done he did without having Haynes and Greendige as openers.

5.) Steve Waugh - An ideal man to lead anyside in the world, great reliable batsman, real match winner, confiedent on any situation and overall one of the best captain ever eventhough he didn't captain much in 90s.

6.) Chris Cairns - Eventhough 90s weren't much about many all rounders but at his peak he was one of the best. His awesome bowling and batting display in the world cup were match winning performances.

7.) Moin Khan Much better keeper than Alec Stewart, not as good in batting but could certainly win matches when needed. Very enthusiastic and one of the keepers who could handle the world's best bowlers behind the stump with the likes of Shoaib Akhtar, Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and Saqlain Mushtaq. Eventhough Rashid Latif may have been better but concerning all round abilities with the bat and bowl Moin was the best keeper of the 90s.

8.) Wasim Akram - The greatest bowler ever without a doubt. Not just the best bowler of the 90s, or the greatest left arm bowler of all time. No one can compare to Wasim, he has performed at top level at most unlike other greats like Waqar or Donald who have only done well when at their prime

9.) Allan Donald** - Poor lad would have been even greater if his country was not isolated. One of the most exciting bowler to watch, simply amazed everyone in 92 world cup. And started the trend to super fast bowlers and gave way to the likes of Lee, Akhtar, Zahid to be fast and consistent.

10.) Waqar Younis - The greatest bowler of alltime after Wasim Akram, his destruction of batsman in early 90s can't ever be compared to any bowler.

11.) Shane Warne - Close call between him, Saqi and Murali, but he was the most consistent of other 2. He could have been even more dangerous without the surgeries definately a match winner and he showed that in 99 final.

1.) Mark Waugh
2.) Saeed Anwar
3.) Sachin Tendulkur
4.) Brian Lara
5.) Steve Waugh (C)
6.) Chris Cairns
7.) Moin Khan (WK)
8.) Wasim Akram
9.) Allan Donald
10.) Waqar Younis
11.) Shane Warner
